#2 2008 Semifinals: Djokovic beats Federer 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(5)

Having registered his first win over Federer in five meetings earlier in the season, in the final of the Coupe Rogers, Djokovic fell short in the pair's first Grand Slam final meeting - at the 2007 US Open.
The opportunity for retribution would arrive swiftly for the Serb though, as the then 20-year-old locked horns with the two-time defending champion in the semifinals of the 2008 Australian Open.
In the early exchanges in the pair's seventh meeting - and third at a Grand Slam tournament - there was little inkling of the eventual outcome in store.Federer served for the first set at 5-3, only for Djokovic to reel off four straight games to grab the opening set. He then surged to a 5-1 lead in the second, which would change the complexion of the match.
Although Federer recouped one of the breaks back it was too late to salvage the second set and Djokovic opened a commanding two-set advantage. In a competitive third set, Federer failed to convert a set point in the 12th game and Djokovic converted his first match point in the ensuing tiebreak to emerge a straight-sets victor.
In the process, the young Serb reduced his head-to-head deficit against Federer to 2-6 and recorded his first Grand Slam match win over the then 10-time Grand Slam champion. Federer on his part suffered his first straight-sets defeat at the tournament since going down to Frenchman Arnaud Clement in the third round in 2001.
The Serb would go on to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final to open his Grand Slam title account.
