Madison Keys did the seemingly impossible at the Australian Open 2025, winning her first-ever Grand Slam title. Before the start of the tournament, it would have taken a really brave person to bet against any of the trio of Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff to win the women's title.

However, as Keys, the 19th seed from the United States, won the tournament beating Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the final, most of the predictions have now gone wrong. The last two months have been great for the 29-year-old American, as she has gained both on the personal and professional fronts during that period.

Madison Keys' life since getting married in 2024

Madison Keys got married to Bjorn Fratangelo, a former men's tennis player, in November 2023. The couple started dating in 2017 and got married later. Fratangelo is now also his wife's coach.

Fratangelo, the 31-year-old from the US, played a total of 62 singles matches on the ATP Tour in his career, finishing with a 22-40 win-loss record. He failed to win any ATP title either.

However ordinary Fratangelo's playing career might have been, he can now boast of having coached his wife to a Grand Slam title. As the American became only the fifth woman from her country to win the Australian Open title, her husband must be significantly proud.

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Keys in Melbourne. She has beaten five seeded players en route to her title, including the top two seeds in Sabalenka and Swiatek. However, her journey has been anything but easy, as she had to battle through five three-setters before putting her hand on the champion's trophy.

Keys is currently ranked 14th in the world among women and won her 10th career title at the Australian Open. The triumph in Melbourne was by some distance the highest moment in her career. She came close at the US Open in 2017 by reaching the final of the tournament, but Sloane Stephens destroyed her dreams in straight sets to win the title.

Thus, Keys' marriage seemed to have brought her luck. She probably does not have too many years left at the top, but can seriously hope to go really deep in a few more Grand Slams at least. With her husband guiding her, Keys has a coach who knows her inside out and can provide valuable input.
