Grigor Dimitrov beat Stan Wawrinka in three sets to move into the quarterfinals

Grigor Dimitrov defeated Stan Wawrinka in three sets 7-6 3-6 6-3 in the third round of Madrid Masters. The Bulgarian won 78% of 1st Serve points as compared Wawrinka’s 86 and also a lower percentage of his 2nd service points as well, winning 36% as compared to Wawrinka’s 55.
Both players had the same number of double faults at 2 and while Wawrinka served 7 aces, Dimitrov had just 4. Dimitrov also won 6 out of his 13 net points as compared to his opponent’s 5 out of 9 and also had 20 winners as compared to Wawrinka’s 30.

But the decisive number that proved to be Wawrinka’s downfall in the end were the unforced errors. The 2014 Australian Open champion conceded as many as 27 unforced errors as compared to his opponent’s 21 and that in the end, tilted the match in favor of the Bulgarian.
He will now face Rafael Nadal in the quarters.
