Alex Michelsen vs Sebastian Ofner preview
Alex Michelsen and Sebastian Ofner will lock horns in an exciting quarterfinal encounter at the 2024 Mallorca Championships.
Michelsen, the third youngster player in the top 100, has been playing some of his best tennis in his first full grasscourt season. The 19-year-old qualified for the main draw in Halle last week before testing former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in the first round.
This week, he posted his main draw grass win by taking out Nuno Borges in the opener. He backed it up with an even bigger upset, registering a win over third-seed Adrian Mannarino to improve his season’s overall win-loss to 13-16.
Ofner, much like his opponent, also opened his winning account on grass in the Mallorca first round.
The Austrian had come into the grass swing with a negative 12-17 win-loss for the season. He, however, had begun his season by reaching a career-high of No. 37 only to lose his way. In the quarterfinals, after wins over Jaume Munar and Luciano Darderi, he will now look to rediscover his winning ways.

Michelsen leads Ofner in their current head-to-head 1-0, having beaten him in their only prior meeting which came at Winston Salem earlier this year.

Alex Michelsen vs Sebastian Ofner prediction
Their recent meeting’s result notwithstanding, Sebastian Ofner will enter the quarterfinal contest as a favorite.
The 6’ 3” tall Austrian possesses a big first serve, which can be an absolute weapon on the quick grasscourts. He has already thundered down 29 aces in his two matches and will rely on the shot to win him a few quick points.
Alex Michelsen does not have the same firepower on serve and instead relies on his strength from the baseline to win points.
Grass also takes some time to get used to, and that’s part of why experienced players tend to do better on the surface. Ofner has both the power and experience needed to succeed. If he can go from strength to strength and not make too many errors, he should be able to avenge the loss from earlier this year.
Prediction: Ofner to win in three sets
