Sydney, Jan 6 (IANS) United States player Bethanie Mattek-Sands ousted Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-4, 6-3 here Monday in the Apia International Sydney tennis tournament.
The victory takes Mattek-Sands’s winning streak to four after the talented American won through three tough rounds of qualifying to take her place in the main draw. Mattek-Sands said she was extremely happy with her form as she had not played a match since September due to a knee injury, reports Xinhua.
“I came out wanting just to get a good rhythm, play my game, be relaxed and I was able to do that all these matches so I’m really happy,” she said.
Next up for the American is a daunting prospect as she will play against top seed and defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska.
The Apia International Sydney tournament is a warm up event to the Australian Open which starts Jan 13 in Melbourne.
