Djokovic is the most successful player in the history of the ATP 1000 tournament in Shanghai, having claimed the title four times. He also holds several other records, including the most matches won (34), the best winning percentage (88.90%), and the most editions played (12), to name a few.
In addition to his dominance in Shanghai, Djokovic also holds multiple records at the China Open in Beijing. He has competed in the tournament six times, winning all six titles without ever losing a final, maintaining an impeccable 29-0 record.

Following his win over Coric, reporters asked Novak Djokovic about his impressive records in China. The 24-time Major champion responded by saying that he always feels a positive energy in the Asian country, adding:
"Maybe from the past life. Maybe I was Chinese in the past life (smiling). I wouldn't be surprised, to be honest, with the way I feel here and the way I communicate and have relationship with the people."
"It's all very, very positive, for more than ten years that I have been coming to China. There is something special about this place that makes me feel like at home," he added.
