Jannik Sinner, Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors are among the players who won all of their first three Grand Slam finals. The Italian joined this distinctive list following his triumph at Australian Open 2025 after defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.
Jannik Sinner entered the tournament as the heavy favorite to win and dropped just two sets en route to his victory. The 23-year-old's exploits made him just the second Italian players to successfully defend their Grand Slam singles title, the other one being Nicola Pietrangeli.
Apart from Jannik Sinner, there have been another seven players who came out on top in their first three Major finals, including some who are absolute legends of tennis. On that note, let us take a look at the eight players to have accomplished this feat.
#8. Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner entered Australian Open 2025 as the defending champion and the heavy favorite to win after some impressive performances in 2024, that saw him win two Majors and the ATP Finals. The 23-year-old started his title defense with a straight-set win over Nicolas Jarry before coming back from a set down to beat Tristan Schoolkate 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
Jannik Sinner then beat Marcos Giron 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 before registering a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over 13th seed Holger Rune to book his place in the quarterfinals. Here, he produced a dominant 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 win over eighth seed Alex de Minaur before another straight-set win over 21st seed Ben Shelton (7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2) to reach a second straight Australian Open final.
Jannik Sinner faced Alexander Zverev and produced a terrific performance to win 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 to successfully defend his title at the Melbourne Major. This was the 23-year-old's third Grand Slam victory in as many appearance, having previously won at the Australian Open and US Open in 2024.
#7. Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz has a 100% record so far in Grand Slam finals, the first of which came at US Open 2022. The Spaniard secured three successive five-set victories to reach his maiden Major final. Here, he faced Casper Ruud and won 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 to not only win his maiden Grand Slam title but also become the youngest-ever World No. 1 in history.
Alcaraz's second Major final came at Wimbledon 2023, where he beat Jeremy Chardy, Alexandre Muller, Nicolas Jarry, Matteo Berrettini, Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev. Here, the Spaniard was up against Novak Djokovic and the two played out a thrilling final that lasted for over five hours.
Alcaraz looked to be in trouble after the opening set but he produced some impressive tennis to win 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and clinch his second Grand Slam title.
The Spaniard's third Major victory came at French Open 2024, where he dropped just one set before the semifinals. Alcaraz found himself trailing after three sets against Jannik Sinner but he fought back to win 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and reach the final. The 21-year-old recovered from a similar situation in the title clash to beat Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 and win his third Grand Slam.
Alcaraz's 100% record in Major finals remains intact, as he registered a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) win over Djokovic to successfully defend his title at Wimbledon.
#6. Stan Wawrinka
At his peak, Stan Wawrinka managed to defeat the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in their pomp. The Swiss' maiden Grand Slam final came at the 2014 Australian Open, where he survived scares from Djokovic and Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
Wawrinka's opponent in the final was Rafael Nadal, who hurt his back up while warming up before the match. The Swiss produced some brilliant tennis throughout the fixture to beat the then-World No. 1 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and win his maiden Grand Slam title.
He played his second Major final the following year at the 2015 French Open, defeating the likes of Gilles Simon, Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga en route. Here, Wawrinka faced Novak Djokovic, who was gunning for a Career Grand Slam, and came back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 and clinch his second Major title.
Wawrinka and Djokovic also locked horns in the title clash of US Open 2016, and the Swiss once again came back from a set down to win 6-7(1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 and claim his third and till date, final Grand Slam title.
Wawrinka won his first three Major title clashes before winning his most recent one to Rafael Nadal, which came at French Open 2017.
#5. Roger Federer
Roger Federer was touted as a precocious and made his first Major final at Wimbledon 2003, where he beat Lee Hyung-taik, Stefan Koubek, Mardy Fish, Feliciano Lopez, Sjeng Schalken and Andy Roddick.
The then-20-year-old was up against Mark Philippoussis in the title clash and won 7-6(5), 6-2, 7-6(3) to clinch his maiden Major title. After a fourth-round exit at that year's US Open, Federer reached the Australian Open final in 2004 after defeating the likes of Lleyton Hewitt, David Nalbandian and Juan Carlos Ferrero en route.
Here, the Swiss was up against Marat Safin and registered a 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the first of his six titles at the Melbourne Major. Federer lost in the third round of the French Open but was back in a Wimbledon final. Here, he was up against Andy Roddick and came back from a set down to win 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-4.
The Swiss went on to win his first seven Grand Slam finals before suffering his maiden defeat in the title clash of the 2006 French Open.
#4. Gustavo Kuerten
Perhaps the best tennis player to have come out of Brazil, Gustavo Kuerten won all of his Major finals, each of which came at the French Open. Kuerten's first Grand Slam title clash came at the 1997 French Open, when he was an unseeded 20-year-old.
Kuerten beat the previous two champions Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Thomas Muster to reach his maiden Major final. Here, he was up against two-time Roland Garros winner Sergi Bruguera and beat the Spaniard 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
Kuerten's second title came at the 2000 edition of the clay-court Major, where he was the fifth seed and beat the likes of Michael Chang, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Juan Carlos Ferrero to reach the final. Here, the Brazilian beat Magnus Norman 6-2, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(6) to win his second Grand Slam title.
Kuerten successfully defended his title in 2001 by defeating Alex Corretja 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in the final.
#3. Stefan Edberg
Stefan Edberg's maiden Grand Slam final came at the 1985 Australian Open, when he was a teenager. The fifth-seeded Swede defeated then-World No. 1 Ivan Lendl to reach the title clash. Here, he faced compatriot Mats Wilander and beat him 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
Edberg's second Major triumph came at the very same tournament in 1987, when he was the fourth seed. This time. the Swede beat Miloslav Mecir and Wally Masur to reach the final. Here, he was up against local boy Pat Cash and won a thrilling encounter 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Edberg's third Grand Slam final came at the following year's Wimbledon Championships, where he was the third seed. He came back from two sets down to beat Miloslav Mecir 4-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 and set up a title clash with Boris Becker, who won the last two editions of the grass-court Major.
Edberg came back from a set down to beat the German 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-2 and win his third Major title. The Swede ended his career with a 6-5 record in Grand Slam finals.
#2. Bjorn Borg
Bjorn Borg is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and dominated the sport in the 1970s. The Swede's first Grand Slam final came at the 1974 French Open, when he was just 18 years old.
Borg overcame tough challenges from Erik van Dillen, Raul Ramirez and Harold Salomon to reach the title clash and here, he came back from two sets down to defeat Manuel Orantes 2-6, 6-7(4), 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.
The Swede successfully defended his title in 1975 after defeating Guillermo Vilas 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. His third Grand Slam final came at Wimbledon 1976, where he produced some dominant performances over David Lloyd, Marty Riessen, Colin Dibley, Brian Gottfried, Guillermo Vilas and Roscoe Tanner.
In the title clash, Borg faced Ilie Nastase and beat him 6-4, 6-2, 9-7 to win his third Major title. The Swede eventually had an 11-5 record in Grand Slam finals by the time he retired.
#1. Jimmy Connors
Jimmy Connors was the first man to win his first three Grand Slam finals, all of them in the same year, 1974. That year, the American did not compete at the French Open but won Wimbledon after beating Ken Rosewall 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
Next up, was the US Open, where he was the top seed and thrashed the Aussie 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 in the title clash. The last Major of the year was the Australian Open, where several top players did not compete. Connors survived a few scares from the likes of Syd Ball and Vladimir Zednik to reach the final.
Here, the American faced Phil Dent and won 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to win his only title at the Melbourne Major.
