Alycia Parks vs Alina Korneeva preview
World No. 115 Alycia Parks will take on Alina Korneeva in the first round of the Merida Open Akron on Tuesday, 29 October.
After a third-round exit at the Australian Open, Parks has chalked up early exits at Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, and New York. Despite her ordinary form on the main tour, the American has captured a couple of titles on the ITF circuit, in Gaiba and Warsaw.
The 23-year-old will enter Mexico on the back of second-round exits in Beijing and Guangzhou. She started her campaign at the Guangzhou Open with a commanding win over Anna Bondar, but couldn't tip the scales in her favor against Katerina Siniakova. The Czech defeated her in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Alina Korneeva, meanwhile, is one of the most talented youngsters on tour. She's played limited tennis this season and suffered a second-round defeat at the Australian Open, but had a title-winning run at the ITF W100 Caldas da Rainha.
The Russian will enter Mexico on the back of a first-round exit at the ITF Tampico. Despite a valiant effort against Maria Lourdes Carle, she was outlasted by the Argentine in a close three-set match 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-4. Korneeva will be eager to make a deep run in Mexico.

Alycia Parks vs Alina Korneeva prediction
Alycia Parks captured her maiden title on tour last year but has struggled to make a strong impression this season. Apart from two titles on the ITF circuit, she hasn't reached the second week of any event on tour. The American has a chance to find her range at the Merida Open and will be hoping to put her best foot forward.
Korneeva, on the other hand, is slowly regaining her fitness after being sidelined for six months due to a wrist injury. She managed to reach the main draw in Melbourne for the first time this year and has the composure to compete at a high level.
Both players haven't had the best season so far and will be eager to chalk up a strong result in Mexico. Parks has slightly improved her game during the Asian hardcourt swing and will be hoping to continue her promising form this week. The American can expect a tricky challenge from her opponent but should be able to pass this test and advance to the second round.
Pick: Alycia Parks to win in three sets.
