Fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on 25th seed Francisco Cerundolo on Monday (March 27) for a place in the Miami Open fourth round.
The World No. 6 Auger-Aliassime improved to a 12-6 win-loss record in 2023 by seeing off Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in the second round. The Canadian is coming off a quarterfinal run at Indian Wells last week, where he lost to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime also made the semifinals in Doha and the quarterfinals at the Dubai Tennis Championships, losing to the red-hot Daniil Medvedev on both occasions. He made the second week of the Australian Open at the start of the year, where he lost to Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round. The Canadian is now 7-3 in Miami, having reached the semifinals in 2021 before losing to John Isner.
Meanwhile, the 31st-ranked Cerundolo is off to a 9-8 start to the season, having beaten Alexandar Kovacevic in the second round. The 24-year-old Argentinian has reached two quarterfinals this season - Cordoba (lost to Federico Coria) and Buenos Aires (lost to Bernabe Zapata Miralles).
Cerundolo made an inspired run to the semifinals on his Miami debut last year before losing to Casper Ruud.

Both Auger-Aliassime and Cerundolo are quintessential baseliners, but the Canadian takes the edge in terms of his superior hardcourt game and pedigree.
Auger-Aliassime has a potent game on hardcourt - serves big, hits powerfully off either flank and moves well. Cerundolo, meanwhile, has found most of his success on clay, but he did reach the Miami last four in 2022, demonstrating his hardcourt pedigree.
The two players match up well against each other, making this a tough contest to call. Nevertheless, the higher-ranked Auger-Aliassime should stop Cerundolo's bid to make back-to-back fourth-round appearances in Miami.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets.
