Jessica Pegula vs Danielle Collins preview
Compatriots Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins are set to clash in the third round of the 2023 Miami Open on Saturday.
Pegula faced qualifier Katherine Sebov in the second round. The American took an early lead to go 2-0 up in the first set, but her opponent claimed the next couple of games to level the score.
Pegula then bagged four of the next five games to clinch the set. The second set was more one-sided, with the World No. 3 dishing out a breadstick to win the match 6-3, 6-1.
Collins, meanwhile, faced lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova for a spot in the third round. The American jumped to an early 3-0 lead but stumbled while trying to close out the set at 5-3. The set eventually went into a tie-break, with the 2022 Australian Open runner-up coming out on top to nab the opener.
Collins broke her opponent's serve twice to go 3-0 up in the second set. Tomova managed to retrieve one of the breaks, but lost her serve promptly in the next game. The American held on to the lead this time and soon won the match 7-6(3), 6-2.

Jessica Pegula vs Danielle Collins prediction
Despite some decent serving from Sebov, Pegula was able to break her opponent's serve with ease. As usual, she was rock solid from the back of the court and gave nothing away.
Collins almost let the first set slip from her grasp, but regrouped just in time. The second set was more routine, with her opponent having a hard time keeping up with her.
Collins has had a rather average season so far. She appears to be slightly less animated than usual at times, while her groundstrokes, especially her reliable backhand, fail to pack a punch as well.
Their previous meeting at the Canadian Open a couple of years ago was a close affair. Pegula was able to handle the relentless Collins onslaught by sneaking past her in three sets. Given the former's consistency these days, she's likely to wear her fellow American down to secure another victory over her.
Pick: Jessica Pegula to win in straight sets.
