Stan Wawrinka vs Arthur Cazaux preview
Three-time Major winner Stan Wawrinka will take on local favorite Arthur Cazaux in the first round of the 2025 Open de Sud France on Monday (Jan. 27).
Wawrinka endured a tough season on the ATP Tour last year, accumulating a 10-17 win/loss record and winning back-to-back matches at only one event - the Stockholm Open last October. The Swiss' fortunes didn't get any better at this year's Australian Open as he fell to Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.
The former World No. 3 has received a wildcard at this week's Open de Sud France. He is making his career's first appearance at the ATP 250 tournament. Wawrinka's opponent, Cazaux, has more experience than the 39-year-old in Montpellier, having played in the main draw of the event last year.
The 22-year-old has lost three of his five matches in 2025 thus far, with his last defeat coming in the second round of the Australian Open. The World No. 78 had a similar season last year, compiling a 10-13 win/loss record.
Stan Wawrinka vs Arthur Cazaux head-to-head

Stan Wawrinka vs Arthur Cazaux prediction
Wawrinka is a shadow of his past self that won three Major titles against all odds in the last decade. Although the Swiss, now ranked at a lowly 156th in the world, still has an overpowering single-handed backhand, he makes more uncharacteristic errors from his forehand side.
Cazaux's groundstrokes are slightly more balanced, and unlike Wawrinka, he likes taking the ball on the rise. The Frenchman can also mix up his aggression with charging the net and hitting drop shots.
The key for both players in this match-up will be to shorten rallies and dominate with their respective forehands. Wawrinka is the favorite to get through on paper; however, he has yet to get into a good match rhythm in 2025, which seriously undermines his chances against his younger opponent.
Pick: Cazaux to win in three sets.
