Sofia, Nov 5 – Nadia Petrova of Russia won the women’s tennis Qatar Airways Tournament of Champions beating former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 6-1.
Petrova won her second victory in five matches against Wozniacki after one hour and 28 minutes to lift her third title of the season and 13th in her career here Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The 30-year-old added 375 points to become number 12 in the World ranking, and pocketed $270,000 of prize money.
On the road to the glory since Tuesday, Petrova beat Zheng Jie of China 6-3, 6-3, Maria Kirilenko of Russia 3-6, 7-6, 6-3, Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 and Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-7, 6-1, 6-4.
In the tournament that included six women players who have captured at least one International Series tournament title during the year along with two wildcards, Wozniacki beat Hsieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei 6-2, 6-2, Roberta Vinci 6-3, 6-1, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 and Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4, 6-1.
The next two editions of the Tournament of Champions will aso be held again in Sofia in 2013 and 2014.
