Adrian Mannarino vs Reilly Opelka preview
After a first-round bye, Adrian Mannarino will commence his title defence against Reilly Opelka in the second round of the Hall of Fame Open.
Mannarino had a couple of good results at the start of the season, reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the Dallas Open. His results took a turn for the worse after that. Following a third-round exit from the Indian Wells Masters, he didn't win a match for the next three months.
The Frenchman finally stopped his losing streak with a win over Stefano Napolitano in the first round of the Libema Open. He lost to Gijs Brouwer in the next round, and was knocked out in the first round of his next three events, including Wimbledon.
Opelka received a wildcard to compete in Newport, marking his first ATP tournament in nearly two years after multiple surgeries. He was drawn against Constant Lestienne in the first round.
Opelka breezed through the first set as he claimed it for the loss of only one game. Lestienne struck back to capture the second set and force a decider. The match went down to the wire as the American ultimately came out on top in the tie-break to score a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (2) win and make a triumphant comeback.

Adrian Mannarino vs Reilly Opelka prediction
There were plenty of positives for Opelka in his first tour-level match win after two years away from the sport. While his level was a little inconsistent during the match, he displayed enough sharpness to get over the finish line. His huge serve bailed him out on a few occasions, and he rained down 16 aces and won 90 percent of his first serve points.
Mannarino's poor run of form has become quite worrisome. With only a couple of wins to his name since March, and now the added pressure of defending his title in Newport, the Frenchman's game could unravel even further.
Mannarino certainly knows how to play on grass, and has a 70-50 record on it. While he hasn't made an impact on the surface this season, he could always dwell upon his prior experience to reignite that spark. Unfortunately for him, he also faces Opelka, who has a perfect winning record against him.
All three of their prior matches have been fairly competitive, with two of them going the distance. Even though Opelka is in the early stages of his comeback, he will be favored to make it through this clash.
Pick: Reilly Opelka to win in three sets.
