Giron entered the grass-court tournament following a second-round exit at Wimbledon. The American received a bye to the second round due to his seeding. Here, he faced Benoit Paire and came back from a set down to beat him 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Giron then took on Australian qualifier Alex Bolt and beat him 6-4, 6-1 to book his place in the semifinals.
Here, the American faced fourth-seeded compatriot Christopher Eubanks and won the opening set 6-4. Eubanks bounced back in the second set and won it 6-3 to force the match into a tiebreaker. Giron eventually won the final set to register a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory and reach the third ATP final of his career.
Alex Michelsen suffered a disastrous opening-round exit at Wimbledon despite being two sets up against Lloyd Harris. Like Marcos Giron, the teenager was also given a walkover to the second round of the Hall of Fame Open by virtue of being among the top four seeds.
Michelsen started the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over former champion Maxime Cressy before triumphig over Aleksandar Kovacevic with the same scoreline to book his place in the semifinals.
Here, the 19-year-old faced Reilly Opelka and made easy work of him, registering a comfortably 6-2, 6-0 win to reach his second straight final in Newport.
