Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer recently undertook a snow excursion and engaged in a conversation about life and tennis. The duo will feature in an ad campaign called 'Core Values' for the luxury brand Louis Vuitton.
The tennis greats posed together with their agents in January 2024 and left fans guessing the reason for their reunion. Now the reason behind their meeting is out of the bag, as they feature in the Core Values campaign for Louis Vuitton.
Here are the top 5 moments from their recent reunion for the campaign:
#1 Roger Federer: "I don't think he's aware of what's going to hit him"
The luxury fashion brand shared a behind-the-scenes video from the campaign where the duo was seen hugging each other. Federer poked fun at Nadal's lack of knowledge of the snowy terrain.
"I don't think he's aware of what's going to hit him," he said.
#2 Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal sat on a Louis Vuitton trunk as they chatted away in the midst of snowy mountains
The tennis greats talked about life, tennis, sporting heroes, and much more in the middle of a snowstorm for the aforementioned campaign. They sat atop a vintage Louis Vuitton which made for an iconic image.
#3 Rafael Nadal: "I don't feel my ears"
Nadal accepted that he was not used to the snow as well as Federer was.
"I am not used to the snow, as Roger is. He lives in the snow," the Spaniard said at 0:10.
The Swiss Maestro joked that it probably was the first time he had seen the snow.
"First time he sees snow," the Swiss chimed in.
The King of Clay exclaimed that he could not feel his ears but was enjoying shooting in the snow.
"I don't feel my ears but I am enjoying a lot, the shooting, and yeah I am having fun," he said.
#4 Rafael Nadal: "You were a little bit arrogant"
The duo, reminiscing their first meeting, chuckled as the Spaniard joked that Federer was arrogant. The 20-time Grand Slam champion enquired whether he was nice to him, to which he replied that the Swiss was arrogant. This generated a lot of laughs and the Spaniard said that the Swiss Maestro was nice but he was shy so he could not strike up a conversation with him.
"Was I nice to you or...," the Swiss Maestro asked.
"You were a little bit arrogant," joked the King of Clay. "No honestly, you were super nice. I was just arriving on the tour, and a junior, so I was super shy to talk to you. But you were very nice."
#5 Roger Federer on rivalry with Nadal: "I don’t miss those days, but I miss them"
Federer said that the first matches against up-and-coming players were always special, even though he lost the first counter against the Spaniard.
"And I mean, that was cool, you know, to see the young players come up. The Murrays, the Djokovics, and having a chance to play them the very first time. That first match (against Nadal) will always be very meaningful, even though I lost it," the Swiss Maestro said.
He also said that he had fierce rivalries with many players but one against Nadal was special.
"And it’s been a great rivalry with so many other players, but Rafa, of course, with his playing style and his sort of attitude on court at a young, young age, was not like everybody else. You could feel that there was something special, for sure," he said.
The Swiss icon also reminisced about missing those days due to intense rivalries.
"I don’t miss those days, but I miss them because it was obviously a big moment when we played each other," he added.
The Spaniard leads the head-to-head against Federer at 24-16.
