The 2025 Australian Open ended with Jannik Sinner successfully defending his title with a straight-set victory over Alexander Zverev in the final. The Italian won 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, January 26.
With this win, Sinner has not only clinched his third Major but also set multiple records in the process.

#6 - Jannik Sinner is the youngest player to win successive Australian Open titles since 1992
With his win over Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner became the youngest player since 1992 to win successive titles at Melbourne Park. The Italian player won the title last year at the age of 22 and now has won another at the age of 23.
Sinner's record is near to Jim Courier's record in the 1990s. The American player won successive Australian Open titles in 1992 and 1993 at the age of 21 and 22 years of age. Courier, like Sinner, also rose to No. 1 in the rankings during this time.
#5 - Jannik Sinner becomes the first Italian player to win three Major titles
Successfully defending his Australian Open title came Jannik Sinner his third Major title, making him the most successful Italian player (Male or Female) at the Grand Slam arena.
With his victory at the Rod Laver Arena, Sinner surpassed former Italian player Nicola Pietrangeli. Pietrangeli had won two Major titles, winning the French Open back in 1959 and 1960.
Since the turn of the century, there have been only two other Italian players to win a Major, that being Flavia Panetta at the 2015 US Open. and Francesca Schiavone at the 2010 French Open.
#4 - Jannik Sinner is the fifth man to win three successive hard-court Majors in the Open Era
Since the Open Era began in 1969, Jannik Sinner became the fifth male player to win three successive hard court Majors by winning the 2025 Australian Open. The Italian had won both the hard court Majors in 2024, with title runs in Melbourne and New York last year.
Sinner joins the list with legends of the game such as John McEnroe who won the US Open titles from 1979-1981, Ivan Lendl, who won the New York Major from 1985-1987, Roger Federer, who won five successive hard-court Majors including three US Open titles and two Australian Open titles from 2005 to 2007.
Novak Djokovic is the only one on the list with two such streaks. The Serb won three successive hard court Majors at the 2011 Australian and US Open, along with the 2012 Australian Open. The Serb repeated the feat, by winning three successive hard court Majors from the 2015 Australian Open to the 2016 Australian Open.
#3 - Jannik Sinner is the fourth player to not face a breakpoint in a Major Final since 1990
Jannik Sinners's final performance against Alexander Zverev was as dominant as they come. The top seed did not face a single break point throughout the match, making him only the fourth male player to do so in a Major final since 1990.
Sinner joins the list of elite players like Pete Sampras, who did not face a break point against Boris Becker at 1995 Wimbledon. Two other instances were Roger Federer against Mark Philippoussis at 2003 Wimbledon, and Rafael Nadal against Kevin Anderson at the 2017 US Open.
#2 - Jannik Sinner matches Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors in his first 50 matches as World No. 1
Since ascending to the top position on the ATP rankings, Jannik Sinner has been the most dominant player on the Tour. The Italian player has won 47 of the 50 matches since he became No.1 in June of last year.
His win ratio in the first 50 matches as the No.1 puts him on par with legends of the game like Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors. Following them are Roger Federer and Andre Agassi with 46 and 45 wins respectively in their first 50 matches as the World No.1
#1 - Jannik Sinner becomes the first player to win 10 successive straight-set victories against Top-10 players
Jannik Sinner became the first player in the history of men's tennis to secure 10 successive ten straight-set victories against Top 10 players. The streak began at the Shanghai Masters, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
His straight-sets streak continued at the ATP Finals, where he won all his five matches against Taylor Fritz (twice), Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, and Daniil Medvedev. The Italian once again beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets at the Davis Cup. He secured victories over De Minaur and Zverev to complete the streak at the Australian Open.
