The trio of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner being touted as the next 'Big-3' on social media has left tennis fans unimpressed.

With Roger Federer retiring from tennis last year and Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal slowly edging towards their own in the next few years, tennis fans are eager to predict the next 'Big-3' of men's tennis.

After the recently concluded Sunshine Double, Medvedev, Alcaraz and Sinner have emerged as three of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour at the moment. Alcaraz won the Indian Wells Masters against Medvedev, while Medvedev reigned supreme at the Miami Open against Sinner, who defeated Alcaraz in the semifinal clash..

In light of that, Eurosport tweeted an image of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev and posed the question if these three young guns were the next 'Big-3.' Fans lamented that it was too premature, with many declaring that the formation of another 'Big-3' was almost impossible.

"A BIG 3 WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN IN A HUNDRED YEARS STOP MAKING IT HAPPEN," a fan tweeted.
"Why would you be so desperate to find another big 3? The facts that there's been one big 3 doesn't mean there has to be another one," another fan tweeted.

Many users were not happy with Medvedev being included alongside Alcaraz and Sinner, pointing out the Russian was much older than them and that he wasn't even part of the same generation as them.

"27 yo Medvedev in the next generation," one fan wrote, along with a crying emoji.

Fans also noted that future 'Big-3' predictions change with every tournament as Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud have also made the list based on their performances in the past.

""The next big 3?" Answer: no. Last month it was Rune, now Medvedev, one year ago Tsitsipas and Zverev with Daniil. You change the next big 3 every month," one user posted.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has decided to skip the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters owing to physical discomfort and post-traumatic arthritis in his hand. Alcaraz, who has seen success on the clay court, will therefore be unable to start the clay season this year at Monte-Carlo.

The 19-year-old took to Twitter to share the news that he will be unable to compete at the recommendation of his doctor.

"After two months abroad, I am happy to return home but sad because I finished my last match in Miami with physical discomfort. After visiting my doctor @drlopezmartinez in Murcia today and being evaluated, I will not be able to go to Monte Carlo to start the clay court tour," Alcaraz tweeted.

He further revealed the cause of his absence, saying:

"I have post-traumatic arthritis in my left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine that needs rest to prepare for everything that is to come. See you in 2024 @ROLEXMCMASTERS," Carlos Alcaraz clarified.

Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, will both be in action at the Masters 1000 tournament, where they will be joined by the likes of Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and others.
