Fans slammed Jakub Mensik for his seemingly cold handshake with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard following their Brisbane International quarterfinal clash. On Friday, January 3, Mensik and Perricard clashed in Brisbane for a place in the semifinal of their first tournaments of the 2025 season.

Perricard, who has put on a service masterclass throughout the event, got in on the act again with 19 aces and managed to win the match 7-5, 7-6(5). Despite fighting toe-to-toe with the Frenchman after losing the first set, Mensik could not force a decider after losing the second set in a tiebreaker.

After Perricard secured the final point, the players met at the net for the customary handshake, but Mensik seemed visibly disinterested, making the exchange appear cold.

A video of the incident was uploaded on X and fans slammed the Czech for having a poor attitude in defeat.

Reacting to the video, a fan called him a sore loser, they wrote:

"@mensik_jakub_seems to be a sore looser. We like to see adults playing this beautiful sport, not cranky kids."
"Mensik really goin thru it right now 😂😂" another fan wrote.
"Mensik not a very good sport it seems, and Perricard has a very big game. Seems the French finally have something really special, only time will tell. Mensik, by the way is a very good player, but might need an attitude adjustment, going forward!" a third fan wrote.

Here are some more fan reactions to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Jakub Mensik's handshake.

"Why do people always expect a good handshake from someone that just lost?" one fan asked.
"That was disgrace from Mensik," another fan wrote.
"A loss sucks but Mensik is still a young boy! Much to learn," yet another fan wrote.

After the match, Mpetshi Perricard expressed happiness over his swift win against Mensik. He will next take on Reilly Opelka in the semifinal on Saturday, January 4.
