One of the biggest stories in the United States of America right now is the impending ban of TikTok. The app is hugely popular in the USA with close to 170 million users and it's likely going to be banned.
Aryna Sabalenka is a prominent user of the app who posts on it quite often. The ban is likely to affect her as well because she lives in the US. Her base has been Miami for a while and if the app gets banned, then she won't be able to use it as easily as she has been so far.
The Belarusian was asked about it following her most recent match at the Australian Open during a press conference and she responded by saying:
"We have no control over that situation, but I mean, you know, there is a way to enter those social medias, even if it's banned," Sabalenka on TikTok getting banned in the United States.
With the US Supreme Court rejecting an appeal on the matter on January 17, the TikTok ban in the United States will go into effect on Sunday (January 19) as it stands.
Sabalenka, meanwhile, is currently in Australia competing at the Australian Open where she will face Mirra Andreeva in the fourth round.
Coco Gauff on the TikTok ban
Aryna Sabalenka is, of course, not the only tennis player who uses TikTok. Coco Gauff is another player who famously uses the app quite a lot. She has stated in the past that she could spend hours just scrolling through the app. For Gauff, the story has become a bit tiresome as she's not really following it too much.
"Yeah I am following it. Yeah, I feel like this is the third or fourth time this has happened, so I've kind of like, this time just was like, 'Whatever.' If I wake up and it doesn't work, fine. I'm done wasting my time figuring it out," Coco Gauff said during a press conference at the Australian Open.
The World No. 3 ultimately explained that she hopes the app sticks around, which is what many other Americans think as well.
"But obviously, I hope TikTok extends. I think it's a great thing for a lot of small businesses in our country and a lot of creators make money on it and have the chance to spread stories."
Coco Gauff will face Belinda Bencic in the fourth round of the Australian Open.
