French tennis hope Corentin Moutet has been fined $15,000, reportedly for an expletives-laden outburst against the chair umpire during his second-round win against American Mitchell Krueger in the ongoing Australian Open. Ranked 69th in the world, Moutet overcame the American, ranked outside the Top 100, after a titanic tussle in four sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-2.

The development was reported online by tennis insider Ben Rothenberg. According to the tennis journalist, the fine was presumably for Moutet's behavior "midway through the second set, the first of which halted play for more than six minutes."

Rothenberg also posted a transcript of the exchange between Moutet and the chair umpire, which saw the Frenchman hurl several expletives at the official.

“Man, every night, all the referees are getting drunk here. And then the next day, they are ruining the game. How is that possible, man?” Corentin Moutet said.

The Frenchman went out in the next round, losing 6-7(10), 3-6, 3-6 to American teen sensation Learner Tien. Notably, Corentin Moutet's fine was handed out days after former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev was slapped with a hefty punishment of $76,000 after his outburst during a shocking defeat to Tien in the second round.

$10,000 of the fine amount was imposed due to Medvedev destroying a GoPro camera attached to the net after being broken by his opponent at a pivotal point in the match. Reacting to the incident during the post-match press conference, the Russian said:

"Honestly I hope not too big [the fine for breaking the camera] because probably, like, the fine is usually for breaking the racket, and the camera is going to cost some, but I don't think GoPro is that expensive. But what I have to say is that the camera was very, very strong, because my racket didn't handle the damage but the camera did."

After his shock upsets to Moutet and Medvedev, Tien has made history at the Open and is being touted as one of the brightest hopes for American men's tennis.

19-year-old Learner Tien became the youngest man in two decades to make the Round of 16 at the Australian Open after wins over Corentin Moutet and Daniil Medvedev. 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal made the fourth round as an 18-year-old in 2005, losing in a tight-five setter to the eventual finalist 7-5, 3-6, 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-2.

Tien's historic run ended with a loss to Lorenzo Sonego in four sets. The teenager is projected to enter the top 100 for the first time based on his best performance in a Grand Slam.
