Alex de Minaur was very careful not to displease the crowd during a tricky post-match interview where he was asked about the quality of Melbourne coffee. The home-favorite fielded some candid questions following his second-round win over Tristan Boyer on Thursday.

When asked what he tended to do on his off days at the event, De Minaur said that, much like any good Australian, he enjoys going out and finding a good coffee shop.

"You know it, mate. We find the best coffee shop in town."

The interviewer proceeded to ask the former World No. 6 what he thought about the quality of Melbourne coffee in light of Iga Swiatek recently proclaiming that she finds the coffee in Sydney better.

De Minaur chose his words rather carefully and also expertly dodged the question, which elicited a chuckle from the crowd.

"Look, I better keep this amazing crowd on my side. There is no better place for coffee than Australia."

Seeded eighth at the Major, Alex De Minaur will now take on 31st seed Francisco Cerundolo in the third round on Saturday, January 18.

Alex De Minaur's fantastic level at the Australian Open

Alex De Minaur was counted by many analysts as a dark horse candidate to perform well at the Australian Open, and so far, he has looked really good. He has won two matches so far, both in straight sets, to find himself in the 3rd round of the event.

His next opponent, Francisco Cerundolo can be a tricky player to play against but is also not expected to give De Minaur too many problems. They've never played before, which could make this match interesting, but again, De Minaur is highly favored because he has a better track record both in Australia and on hard courts in general.

Alex De Minaur has over 180 wins on hard courts in his career, while that number is only 35 for Cerundolo and the Argentine's best result in Australia was a third round compared to the Australian, who went to the fourth round in three straight appearances.

If he wins, De Minaur will secure a spot in the fourth round, which is the best result De Minaur has ever had at the Australian Open. He made the fourth round in three consecutive appearances dating back to 2022 but has never been able to move past and secure a quarterfinal appearance.

With the way he's played so far at the event, there is a very decent chance the Australian will be able to get past Cerundolo in their third-round encounter on Saturday, January 18.
