Alex de Minaur showed support for his fiance, Katie Boulter, during her first contest at the 2025 United Cup. The tennis power couple has often been at each other's side during matches and recently got engaged during the 2024 off-season.
Boulter kicked off proceedings for Great Britain at the 2025 United Cup as she faced off against Argentina's Nadia Podoroska in the first contest of the group-stage tie. The World No. 24 lived up to expectations and broke World No. 100 Podoroska four times to easily win the match 6-2, 6-4 in under 90 minutes.
Boulter received boisterous support from her fellow teammates as well as her fiance, Alex de Minaur, who was seen in the stands. De Minaur is also competing in the 2025 United Cup. He was the lone shining light for the Australians during their 2-1 loss against Argentina.
Boulter gave Great Britain the 1-0 advantage, but Tomas Martin Etcheverry leveled the scoreline by beating Billy Harris in the second contest of the tie. The winner-take-all mixed doubles contest went the Brit's way as Boulter and Charles Bloom got the better of Podoroska and Etcheverry in a close contest, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Alex de Minaur's Australia to face Katie Boulter-led Great Britain at United Cup 2025
While Alex de Minaur supported Katie Boulter during her nation's tie against Argentina, he won't be doing so for long. Australia will face Great Britain in the final group F clash at the tournament. The tie will be do-or-die for hosts Australia, who lost to Argentina 2-1 on December 28.
Meanwhile, Great Britain is in prime position to qualify for the knockout phase after a 2-1 triumph in their first tie. Australia will take on Great Britain on January 1, with Boulter facing Olivia Gadecki and de Minaur going up against Billy Harris. The nominations for mixed doubles tie are not known yet.
Great Britain will progress to the quarterfinals if they win the tie. If Australia wins the tie, all three teams in the group will be tied at one win and one loss, with the sets won-loss percentage coming into play.
Australia reached the semifinals of the United Cup in 2024 but lost to eventual champion Germany. Meanwhile, Great Britain narrowly missed out on qualifying for the knockout phase due to an inferior sets won-loss percentage in their group.
