Alex de Minaur adorably gave tribute to his fiancee Katie Boulter for her impact on his maiden run to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open. The Aussie has been knocking on the door for quite some time but finally decided to break the door by decimating Alex Michelsen in straight sets.

De Minaur has been to the fourth round of his home Grand Slam for three consecutive years but has failed to move further. The eighth seed took down rising star Michelsen 6-0, 7-6(5), 6-3 to reach his first quarterfinal in Australia. He also defeated Botic Van de Zandschulp, Tristan Boyer and Francisco Cerundolo en route.

During the on-court interview, Jim Courier questioned the 25-year-old if reaching his maiden Australian Open quarterfinal right after his engagement to Katie Boulter was a coincidence. This is de Minaur's eighth Australian Open campaign.

De Minaur admitted that the Brit kept him off the court, which helped him clinch big results on the court. Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter got engaged to each other during the offseason. The couple had been dating since March 2020 and can often be seen cheering each other on during their matches.

"I don't believe in coincidences. I think when you are happy off the court, you play some good tennis on the court," De Minaur said during his on-court interview (at 2:09).

Katie Boulter was also competing at the Australian Open but was eliminated in the second round by Veronika Kudermatova.

During the on-court interview, when a fan shouted 'I love you', de Minaur's response to him created a wholesome moment at the Rod Laver Arena. He said (0:27 onwards):

"I love you guys, too, so much. There's nothing I want to do more than play well here in Australia in front of you guys, so I'm glad I finally made it to the quarterfinals here, but yeah, let's go for bigger and better things. Come on."

Up next, De Minaur will face possibly the biggest challenge in tennis if he wishes to reach his maiden semifinal of a Grand Slam.

Alex de Minaur will face World No. 1 and the defending champion Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open, in what will be the 10th meeting between the two men. The Italian holds a massive 9-0 lead against the Aussie. The two played each other at the Happy Slam in 2022 where Sinner won in straight sets.

Sinner defeated Nicolas Jarry, Tristan Schoolkate and Marcos Giron to reach the fourth round where he faced 13th seed Holger Rune. The Italian clinched a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over the Dane to get a place in the final 8.

The winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur will play either 21st seed Ben Shelton or Lorenzo Sonego in the semifinals.
