Alexander Zverev recently discussed his chances for the upcoming 2024 French Open. Last year, he made it to the semifinals at Roland Garros .
Seeded third, Zverev recently defeated 21st seed Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 41 minutes to win the 2024 Italian Open title. Enroute to the final, the former World No.2 had defeated Aleksander Vukic, Luciano Darderi, Nuno Borges, Taylor Fritz and Alejandro Tabilo.
This win over Jarry marked Alexander Zverev's second title in Rome, having previously won in 2017 when he defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3 in the final .
The German now has 22 tour-level titles to his name, including six ATP Masters 1000 titles. His most recent Masters 1000 win was at the 2021 Western & Southern Open, where he defeated Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match.
During the post-match press conference following his win over Nicolas Jarry, Alexander Zverev was asked about his chances at the upcoming French Open. In response, Zverev expressed his belief in his abilities, stating that he was a player who could defeat anyone when he was at his best.
"Look, I've said it many times before, and I'm going to say it again: I'm somebody that I know when I don't play well, I can lose to anyone, but when I play well, I know I can beat anyone. That's my mindset. That's how I think about it," Zverev said.
The former World No.2 also stated that his intention was to approach Roland Garros with a positive mindset and focus on his performance and rhythm to achieve success.
"I know I have to focus on myself, to find my rhythm in Paris the way I did here. Then everything is on my own racquet," he added.

Alexander Zverev has had three consecutive semifinals finishes at the French Open from 2021 to 2023.
In 2021, Zverev, seeded sixth, kicked off his campaign in Paris by defeating German qualifier Oscar Otte in the first round. He then continued his winning streak by overcoming Roman Safiullin and Laslo Dere in the second and third rounds, respectively .
The German then faced off against Kei Nishikori in the fourth round and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarterfinals. His journey came to an end in the semifinals when he was defeated by ebventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.
In 2022, Alexander Zverev, seeded third, started strong by defeating qualifier Sebastian Ofner in the first round and Sebastian Baez in the second.
He then went on to defeat Brandon Nakashima and Spanish qualifier Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. Zverev faced Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and advanced to the final four, where he faced eventual champion Rafael Nadal
However, Zverev was forced to retire from his match against the 22-time Grand Slam champion due to a severe ankle injury he suffered during the match. This injury subsequently required surgery and caused him to miss the remainder of the 2022 season .
Last year, Alexander Zverev began his French Open campaign by defeating Llyod Harris. He then defeated Alex Molcan, Frances Tiafoe, and Grigor Dimitrov to advance to the quarterfinals. There, he overcame Tomas Martín Etcheverry but was ultimately defeated by eventual runner-up Casper Ruud in the semifinals.
