Alexander Zverev gave his opinions on the recent controversy involving Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins. Ahead of his 2025 Australian campaign, the German expressed curiosity over the element that makes the two WTA stars get involved in multiple feuds against each other.
Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins were seen sharing a cold handshake at the United Cup 2025. During Team Poland's high-stakes competition against Team USA in the finals, Collins reignited her past feud against the World No. 2 with her controversial gesture. The two were also seen in a heated exchange during their showdown at the Paris Olympics where Swiatek extinguished the American's Olympic hopes.
Amid the controversial handshake, Alexander Zverev was asked about his opinion on the situation in a press conference on Friday, January 10. Being unaware of the exact reason behind the heated rivalry, Zverev tried to derive the core cause.
"Ask them. I don't know what the issue is between each other, to be honest," Zverev said. "I mean, Danielle has done that before, no? Or not? I feel like there is a little bit of history there, so maybe that's part of the reason."
The feud between these rivals continued brewing off the court as well. Collins changed her Instagram profile picture to her reaction to the same incident.
Along with this move, the American also posted several stories showcasing the glorious celebration alongside Coco Gauff and other members of Team USA.
Taylor Fritz gives his opinion on the Iga Swiatek-Danielle Collins feud
Taylor Fritz was seen jumping high up in the air after Team USA secured the victory over Poland at the United Cup finals. The World No. 4 was also present when his teammate Danielle Collins was captured sharing a cold handshake with Iga Swiatek. Discussing the incident, Fritz didn't back down from presenting his thoughts on the matter.
In a pre-event press conference at the 2025 Australian Open, Fritz tried to normalize the situation, saying that things like these keep happening in the sport.
"To be honest, I think everyone looks good shaking hands when you're the winner. Everyone is graceful when they win. When I lose matches, I always try to look my opponent in the eye. If they played great, I just say, Hey, too good, congrats, good luck," he said.
Danielle Collins is all set to begin her 2025 Australian Open campaign against Daria Snigur on Monday, 13 January. Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek will go up against Katerina Siniakova.
