Tennis insider Jose Morgado shared his thoughts on Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Tommy Paul participating in exhibition tournaments that overlap with the official ATP calendar.
On Friday, January 24, renowned tennis commentator Morgado took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight an unusual situation where two specific tournaments overlapped on the same date.
He captioned his post with a sharp remark:
“A terrible look, really.”
The Mexican Open in Acapulco, a prestigious ATP 500 hard-court tournament, is set to take place from February 24 to March 1, 2025. The tournament will feature top tennis stars, includig Zverev, Fritz, Paul, Ben Shelton, and Tiafoe.
The controversy arose when it was revealed that several players were scheduled to participate in another tournament on the same dates. The MGM Rewards Slam, an exhibition event hosted by MGM Resorts, features stars such as Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, and Tommy Paul. The matches are set to take place on March 1-2, 2025, at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort in the USA.
Questions have been raised about the integrity of matches involving Zverev, Paul, and Fritz due to a potential scheduling conflict. If any of them were to reach the final of the ATP tournament, it could overlap with their exhibition match scheduled for March 1.
