World No. 2 Alexander Zverev will face Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2025 on Tuesday, January 21. The German cruised through the first three rounds here, and beat Lucas Pouille, Pedro Martinez, and Jacob Fearnley in straight sets.

Zverev conceded his first set of the week during his fourth-round match against 14th seed Ugo Humbert. Nevertheless, he finished the match on a strong note to seal a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win. He has progressed to the quarterfinals in Melbourne for the fourth time in his career, and for the second consecutive year. His record here currently stands at 29-9.

Paul was pushed to the brink in the first round but managed to overcome Christopher O'Connell in five sets. He rallied from a set down to beat Kei Nishikori in four sets in the second round, and scored his first straight sets win of the week by beating Roberto Carballes Baena in the third round.

They crossed paths for the second time at the Indian Wells Masters a couple of years later, and he needed three sets to down the German on this occasion.
