Andrea Petkovic recently sported glasses from Roger Federer’s sponsor, Oliver Peoples, claiming that she looks as cool as the Swiss star. He partnered with the American luxury eyewear brand in April 2023, with plans to release his collection in the spring of 2024, which has now been launched.
The former World No.1 retired in 2022, but he has continued to maintain partnerships with several of his sponsors and remains a sought-after brand ambassador. In addition to Oliver Peoples, he is also the ambassador for Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, UBS, Wilson, and others.
On Sunday, Andrea Petkovic posted a selfie wearing a pair of R-4 Oliver Peoples glasses from the collection created in partnership with the 20-time Grand Slam champion. She sported a black denim jacket over a blue knitted sweatshirt in the photo. The German tagged Federer in the image and captioned it, saying she looks as cool as the 43-year-old "any day now."
“Almost as cool as Roger Federer any day now” - Petkovic said
When the Swiss partnered with Oliver Peoples in 2023, he expressed his excitement in a press release, stating that he had been a longtime fan of the brand's craftsmanship.
“I am thrilled to collaborate with Oliver Peoples. I’ve been a fan of the brand for years and have always appreciated their exceptional craftsmanship alongside timeless, elegant designs. We both found great commonality in how we approach our work, and they are a perfect partner for the debut of my RF eyewear collection in 2024,” Federer said.
Andrea Petkovic - “If Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic hadn’t appeared on the tour, Roger Federer would’ve stopped at 17 Grand Slam titles.”
Back in 2023, during a Tennis Channel podcast, Andrea Petkovic stated that if Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic hadn't emerged on the ATP Tour, Federer would have stopped at 17 Grand Slam titles. She claimed that the rivalry among the 'Big Three' spurred him to push for three more Grand Slam victories.
“That is a danger. If we put ourselves back into the shoes around 2009, when Roger broke Pete Sampras’ number. If Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic hadn’t appeared on the tour, he would’ve stopped at 17 [Grand Slam titles]. 100%."
We would’ve never seen these numbers, That’s the most important thing, not only in sports, in politics and art, wherever it is needed to create something really great, to create masterpieces, or to become the best at what you do, you need those rivalries,” she said.
Andrea Petkovic retired from tennis in 2022, having peaked at No. 9 in the WTA rankings and won seven titles during her career. Since retiring, she has worked as an analyst for various media outlets, including the Tennis Channel.
Before her retirement, Petkovic released her first book, The Night Lies Between Fame and Honor, in 2020. Her first post-retirement book, titled Time to Get Out of Here, was published in March 2024.
