American tennis star Amanda Anisimova showed off her transformed locks before beginning her bid for her first Grand Slam title at the ongoing Australian Open.
Traditionally a blonde, Anisimova showed off a stunning mirror selfie where she unveiled her new hairstyle and hair colour: dark brown.
Anisimova captioned the picture, "Why not."
Anisimova has been experimenting with different hair shades in the last few months. Last year in November, she dyed her hair a lighter shade of brown, and unveiled the look in a series of pictures. At the time, she suggested she had gone over to the "dark side," alluding to George Lucas's sci-fi fantasy "Star Wars."
Anisimova, who has been ranked as high as No 21 in the world, took a break from the sport in 2023 to focus on mental health issues. However, she later asserted that she had always known that she would return to the sport.
Anisimova said, "I knew that when I stepped away that I really wanted to come back and I didn't want to finish my career on that note, there was still a lot that I wanted to achieve, and just not finish at such a young age, because I had sacrificed so much and given so much to the sport."
Since making her return to the sport, Anisimova has clawed her way back into the Top 40 of the WTA rankings. The American has said that she still has several goals that she wants to accomplish in the sport.
Amanda Anisimova frankly discussed her goals for her career
22-year-old Amanda Anisimova has been frank regarding what she wants to achieve as a pro on the WTA Tour. After making the final at last year's Canadian Open, Anisimova disclosed that she has set a target of winning a Grand Slam and becoming a World No 1 before she hangs up her racket.
"I think it would be very hard to finish my career without achieving those goals, so I really just want to give it my all, and hopefully in the years to come I'll be able to achieve that," the American disclosed. "All I can really do is just work really hard every day and just do my best, and hopefully that will happen, and if it doesn't, at least at the end of the day I knew that I did all I could."
The American will kickstart her campaign against Argentine Maria Lourdes Carle on Day 2 of the Australian Open. Last year, she made it as far as Round 4, bowing out to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.
Anisimova's 2025 has got off to a rocky start. She lost her season opener at the ASB Classic against countrywoman Alycia Parks. At her next tournament, the Hobart International, she made it into the quarterfinals. However, she had to forfeit her match against Elina Avanesyan as she could not take to the court due to an injury.
