Andy Murray pulls out of Dubai Tennis Championships 2023

A statement released by the organizers has confirmed that Andy Murray has withdrawn from the 2023 Dubai Tennis Championships.

Murray was slated to compete in the ATP 500 tournament, where he was set to face off against Hubert Hurkacz in the first round (Round of 32). Unfortunately, a recurring hip injury has prevented Murray from participating.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has been consistently sidelined since the 2018 season due to a persistent hip injury. At the start of 2019, Murray underwent hip resurfacing surgery, beginning a challenging journey to regain the form and fitness that once made him one of the most formidable players in the world.

The Dubai Tennis Championships released a statement on their social media pages confirming the former World No.1's withdrawal.

"We regret to inform you that Andy Murray is unable to participate in this year's tournament," Dubai Tennis Championship's statement read. "Andy has been dealing with a recurring hip injury that has unfortunately forced him out of Dubai. We wish Andy a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the court in Dubai soon."

The former World No.1, came tantalizingly close to claiming his first ATP title since 2019 at the 2023 Qatar Open but was ultimately thwarted by a dominant Daniil Medvedev. Despite a valiant effort, the Brit was unable to overcome the Russian's formidable play.

Andy Murray has had an impressive 2023 season till his withdrawal from the 2023 Dubai Tennis Championships. He made a strong run at this year's Australian Open, winning two consecutive five-set matches, including the longest match of his career, before being eliminated in the third round.

The former World No.1 then went on to reach the final of the Qatar Open. He also demonstrated remarkable progress in the recently concluded Qatar Open. The British tennis star bested the likes of Lorenzo Sonego and Alexander Zverev, among others, on his way to the championship's final match.

At the post-match press conference, Murray shed some light on his upcoming plans and career goals.

"I still have ambitions of winning tournaments and having deep runs in major events, you know, winning a certain number of matches in my career. I'd like to try to get to 800 match wins, which, I don't know, I think I'm like 75 away from that," he said.

Following his sudden withdrawal from the tournament in Dubai, fans are eagerly awaiting news on Andy Murray's participation at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters.
