Andy Murray shared a hilarious throwback of his long curly hair days after the Brit's new haircut at the 2023 Swiss Indoors went viral.
Murray arrived in Basel following a frustrating first-round exit at the Shanghai Masters. He commenced his campaign at the Swiss Indoors on a winning note, defeating Yannick Hanfmann 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the second round. He broke a three-match losing streak with his win on Monday, October 23.
Murray's haircut amusingly became the talking point during the match when renowned tennis journalist Jose Morgado pointed out the Brit's fresh trim on X (formerly Twitter).
"New haircut, same habits for Andy Murray, who is leading 2-1 after 26 (!) minutes," Morgado's tweet read.
The next day, Murray left fans in stitches after sharing a throwback picture of his long hair on Instagram.
Murray has always been nonchalant when it comes to styling his hair. In a recent interview with ATP, the three-time Grand Slam champion said that he finds going to the hairdressers a 'massive hassle' and that his wife, Kim Sears, often styles his hair.
"Usually it's my wife that cuts my hair. I hate going to the hairdressers, get no enjoyment out of it at all and I find it a massive hassle. But my wife is often nagging me to go to the hairdressers and I just tell her if she wants me to get it cut, then she can cut it," Murray stated.
"Basically, I never liked going to the hairdressers. She was always encouraging me to do it," he added.
Andy Murray will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in second round of Swiss Indoors
Andy Murray will square off against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round of the 2023 Swiss Indoors on Wednesday. This will be their second meeting on the tour.
Murray won their previous encounter at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. He defeated Etcheverry 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round. While the Brit has the upper hand in the head-to-head, it is the Argentine who has won more matches this season.
Etcheverry will be high on confidence after beating eighth seed Sebastian Korda, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, in the opener. He was shaky at times with his first serves but remained more effective on his second serves.
Andy Murray's recent upsets on hardcourts might be concerning. However, the Brit will be looking to use his experience to prevail over Etcheverry in their upcoming face-off.
