American tennis player Andy Roddick reacted to claims that he ignored Alexander Zverev in naming the best male player to not win a Grand Slam. This comes just after Roddick included former Spanish player, David Ferrer, in this Grand Slam conversation.
Following this, there have been numerous narratives emerging that Roddick overlooked Zverev who recently produced an impressive performance and won the 2024 Paris Masters title.
Roddick reacted to one such post on X recently and termed the tweet as clickbait and clarified that he meant very few people would put Ferrer in this conversation. He also said that he didn't 'overlook' any player. Andy Roddick wrote:
"Yeah so not true at all. Said not enough people will mention Ferrer. Didn’t name anything and didn’t overlook anyone. Trashy clickbait."
David Ferrer is a former World No. 3 and has 27 career titles to his name. The Spaniard reached one Grand Slam final in 2013 where he lost to his countrymate, Rafael Nadal in straight sets at the French Open. Besides this, Ferrer lost twice in the semis of both the Australian Open and the US Open.
Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, has lost two Grand Slam finals viz. the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open so far in his career. However, the German has got his hands on two ATP Tour Finals titles, unlike Ferrer.
Andy Roddick shares his viewpoint about the Six Kings Slam
Andy Roddick recently opened up about his thoughts regarding Saudi Arabia's Six Kings Slam. This came just a week before during the first edition of the event in Riyadh.
Speaking during his podcast, Roddick said the setting of the Saudi-based tournament was not natural. He also said that he was not interested in the matches, not even in the clash between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Roddick said (via his podcast Served at 1:44):
"The whole thing looked completely like unnatural. It just looked weird. I just had no interest in it. Even the Novak and Rafa of things, it just, I don't know, it felt fine, it felt like an exhibition, but without the charm of a Laver Cup where you are seeing the interactions between players and the legends get brought back."
The Six Kings Slam event concluded with the World No.1 Jannik Sinner winning the tournament after beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
