Serena Williams built up the excitement for the upcoming women-only track event, Athlos. The event is organized by her husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and will take place on Thursday, September 26.

The one-night event will include six races with six women athletes each, including American Olympians Gabby Thomas and Alexis Holmes. The entertainment part of the evening will feature soundtracks by DJ D-Nice and a performance by Megan Thee Stallion.

Williams took to Instagram to share a clip featuring the athletes at the event. She supported her husband and built up the thrill for his latest endeavor. She captioned the clip:

The clip began with Dutch racer Lieke Klaver and reigning 200m Olympic champion Gabrielle Thomas warming up at the start line. It continued to feature top track-and-field Olympic stars including Masai Russell and Marileidy Paulino racing on the tracks. The clip ended with shots of athletes sprinting towards the finish line to the song 'Neva Play' by Megan Thee Stallion in the background.

The event aligns with Alexis Ohanian's backing for women in sports. He co-owns the National Women's Soccer League team Angel City FC which was recently valued at a record $250 million. The reality show Offseason FC featuring NWSL athletes produced by Ohanian is slated to be launched soon.

In a recent interview, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian shared his thoughts on reimagining women's sports events through Athlos. He said as per AdWeek:

“In sports, so many decisions are determined by past precedent, doing things the way they have always been done. In the world of tech startups, if you think that way, you fail. With Athlos, we are questioning every element and building the best version of the product possible.
The silver lining of women’s sports being so underinvested was that they were so easy to invest in. You can try anything you want. There is no way that things have been done before.”

The all-women-athlete event is designed to popularize track in America where baseball and basketball are the dominant sports. Its unique features include walk-out music, live performances, and hosting teen athletes at the finish line making it appealing for social sharing online.
