Aryna Sabalenka had a tremendous 2024 campaign winning multiple big trophies. She is already working hard for the upcoming season. Tennis moves swiftly, and while we're not even a full month away from the end of the WTA season, most players are already preparing for the new season. She's one of them, and she chose Dubai as the spot where she will have her offseason.
Sabalenka's last event was the WTA Finals in Riyadh, and since then, she's generally laid low. She surfaced with a selfie posted on Instagram. In the photo she is in workout clothes in a gym in Dubai, seemingly getting ready to get back into the swing of things ahead of a return to competitive tennis in a few weeks.
The Belarusian is seen smiling in the photo, clearly in good spirits, slated for a possibly even bigger year in 2025. Her main competitor, Iga Swiatek, is experiencing quite a bit of turmoil after testing positive for a banned substance, so it seems things are lining up well for Sabalenka.
Aryna Sabalenka chooses to prepare in Dubai for multiple reasons
Aryna Sabalenka's decision to prepare for the new season in Dubai has several reasons. First of all, her first event in the new season will be the 2024 World Tennis League, which she has played in for a while now.
The event is played in Abu Dhabi, right next to Dubai, and it's coming up in about two weeks. Despite being in the 2024 calendar, it marks the start of the new season for many players and that will also be the case for Sabalenka. She is on the Hawks team, alongside Taylor Fritz, Sumit Nagal, and Mirra Andreeva.
Another reason Sabalenka is prepping in Dubai is the weather. There aren't many places where the weather is nice at this time of the year and Dubai is one of those places. It's also the type of weather that will await players in Melbourne when they get there. The Australian Open is played during summer and some days can get hot. Dubai gives them a good chance to get used to similar weather. It also allows them to play outdoors, which will await them in Melbourne as well.
