Paula Badosa has shared her delight at reaching the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships after her persistent injury struggles. Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu affectionately extended their support to the Spaniard after her victory.
Badosa took on a formidable opponent in 14th seed Daria Kasatkina in the third round of the grasscourt Major. Although the Spaniard edged past Kasatkina in the opening set tiebreak, the Russian fought back admirably to clinch the second set and force a decider.
The former World No. 2 then battled back from 4-2 down in the third set to claim a hard-fought 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 51 minutes, advancing to the fourth round at SW19.
The significance of the win wasn't lost on anyone, as Paula Badosa broke down in tears after her triumph, admitting that just a few months ago she had been uncertain about her ability to play tennis anymore. The Spaniard also celebrated her victory on social media, rejoicing over booking her place in the second week of the Major.
"2nd week… So nice to see you again @wimbledon 💜💚," Badosa captioned her Instagram post.
Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu, who both enjoy close friendships with Badosa on tour, adorably cheered on the Spaniard in the comments section of her post.
"Let’s gooooooo💪💪💪," Sabalenka wrote.
"👏👏🔥," Raducanu commented.
Badosa also received a heartwarming show of support from her "proud" boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas, as he enveloped her in a warm hug after she left the court.
"Proud of you @paulabadosa 🫶," Tsitsipas posted.
Stronger together. Always," Badosa responded.
Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu on course for potential QF clash at Wimbledon 2024 amid Aryna Sabalenka's absence
As Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu gear up for their respective fourth-round matches at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Aryna Sabalenka remains absent, having pulled out of the grasscourt Major with a shoulder injury.
Following her win over Kasatkina, Badosa will continue her dream run against Donna Vekic in the fourth round. Vekic claimed a hard-fought 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-1 victory against Dayana Yastremska to book her place against the Spaniard.
Raducanu, meanwhile, advanced to the fourth round after triumphing over ninth seed Maria Sakkari dominantly, beating the Greek 6-2, 6-3. The Brit is set to battle it out against qualifier Lulu Sun for a place in the quarterfinals.
If both Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu emerge victorious in their fourth-round matches, they will set up a blockbuster quarterfinal clash at the grasscourt Major. Raducanu enjoys a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head record, having secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory in their sole previous encounter in the 2019 Bolton quarterfinals.
