Aryna Sabalenka gears up for 2023 clay court campaign
Aryna Sabalenka has had a phenomenal start to the 2023 season. She has recorded 20 wins against 3 losses on hard courts so far and has lifted two titles, the Adelaide International 1 and her first Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open. Additionally, the World No. 2 finished as the runner-up in Indian Wells.
After her recent quarterfinal exit at the Miami Open, Sabalenka was initially scheduled to commence her clay court campaign at the 2023 Charleston Open but pulled out of the tournament due to an injury that she incurred during run in Miami.
The athlete is now expected to kick off her red dirt campaign starting with the WTA 500 Stuttgart Open (April 15-23). Sabalenka has scored two back-to-back runner-up finishes at the tournament – in 2021 and 2022 - and will be the defending finalist this year.
Looking forward to her matches in the upcoming months, the World No. 2 stated that she will take notes from her run thus far and will 'bring her best tennis' on the clay courts.
"There were some tough lessons in the first part of the season. I'll just learn, reset, and start working again from the beginning. I'll do my best to make sure I bring my best tennis on the clay court season," the 2021 Madrid Open champion said.
