In a video shared by the WTA, several leading players were asked to make some predictions for 2025. Aryna Sabalenka also featured in the video and made bold predictions for the year, featuring Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek.
The World No. 1 shared her thoughts on which players would reach the first Grand Slam final of the year at the Australian Open.
"I will just say what I want to see, I want to see me against Elena (Elena Rybakina) once again," Aryna Sabalenka said.
Sabalenka and Rybakina faced each other in the 2023 Australian Open final. It was a thrilling match, that the former won despite losing the first set (4-6, 6-3, 6-4). The 2023 Australian Open marked her first Grand Slam title. Since then, Sabalenka has been on a roll and won two Grand Slams in 2024. She also holds the prestigious World No. 1 ranking. As the 2025 Australian Open approaches, the 26-year-old will be aiming for her third consecutive title Down Under.
Later in the video, she was also asked, " Who will win the first WTA 1000 of 2025 in Doha?" she replied, "If I am not playing (chuckles), I would give it to Iga (Iga Swiatek)."
The last time Sabalenka participated in the Qatar Open was in 2022, where she was knocked out by Swiatek, losing 6-2, 6-3. The Pole went on to win the event, and is a three-time consecutive champion in Doha. In 2024, Swiatek won the title by defeating Rybakina in the final with a score of 7-6 (8), 6-2.
