Aryna Sabalenka's coach and hitting partner recently suggested that the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) should add a tournament to its calendar and that the tournament should be held in Greece. The reigning World No. 1's team members' suggestion stemmed from a trip to Greece where they accompanied Sabalenka. The three-time Major winner's boyfriend Georgios Frangulis joined them as well.
On Tuesday, December 24, Sabalenka took to Instagram Stories and shared answers given by her coach Anton Dubrov, and hitting partner Andrei Vasilevski to fans' questions. One of the questions asked the duo regarding their thoughts on the WTA potentially adding a tournament to the women's tennis calendar in a new country. Dubrov and Vasilevski's answer read:
"Would be really cool to have a tournament in Greece as we really loved it there this summer"
Aryna Sabalenka and Georgios Frangulis started dating earlier this year, and since then, the couple has been almost inseparable. The lovebirds have so far visited picturesque Greece not just once, but twice in 2024. Their first trip to the picturesque Mediterranean nation came shortly after Sabalenka's quarterfinal exit from the 2024 French Open.
Sabalenka and Frangulis visited Greece once again in September. This time around, the trip came in the buildup to the Belarusian's campaign at the 2024 China Open. The World No. 1 ultimately reached the quarterfinals at the China Open, where she was ousted by Karolina Muchova.
In July 2024, the Belarusian expressed her positivity at learning about her boyfriend Frangulis' mixed heritage.
Aryna Sabalenka's "lucky" admission about getting to know more about Georgios Frangulis' cultural diversity
Georgios Frangulis, who is riding the wave of entrepreneurial success thanks to the burgeoning popularity of Oakberry Acai Bowls, was born and brought up in San Paolo, Brazil. However, he has Greek roots. Earlier this year, Aryna Sabalenka was asked if she knows Brazilian and Greek culture by a fan on Instagram. The World No. 1 replied:
"I am learning Portuguese and was lucky enough to travel to Greece! So i Guess you could say I'm doing both..."
The 2024 season was a resoundingly successful one for Sabalenka. The Belarusian defended her Australian Open title in style and also went on to clinch the US Open, taking her haul of singles Grand Slam titles to three. She also emerged triumphant at two prestigious WTA 1000 tournaments, the Cincinnati Open and the Wuhan Open.
