The latest update of the ATP rankings saw little change, as most big players skipped the Hangzhou and Chengdu events last week. While the top 10 stayed the same, last week's champions, Shang Juncheng and Marin Cilic, significantly jumped in the rankings.
Jannik Sinner has now completed 17 weeks as World No. 1, moving up to 18th on the all-time list for most weeks at the top. The Italian is currently in Beijing, aiming to defend his title, holding a comfortable 11,180 points — 4,305 points ahead of second-placed Alexander Zverev.
Zverev, with 6,875 points, saw a 200-point drop for not defending his title in Chengdu. Instead, he opted to play in the Laver Cup, where he lifted the cup with Team Europe.
Carlos Alcaraz, also fresh from his Laver Cup triumph, remains in third place with 6,690 points, the same as Novak Djokovic in fourth with 5,560 points. Medvedev holds the fifth spot with 5,475 points.
Both Alcaraz and Medvedev are currently competing in Beijing and have advanced safely to the quarterfinals.
Andrey Rublev, with 4,645 points, Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz with 4,060 points, Casper Ruud with 4,060 points, and Grigor Dimitrov with 3,920 points round off the top 10 in the ATP men's rankings, as they have done for the past couple of weeks.
Chengdu champion Shang Juncheng made a significant leap in the rankings, climbing 15 spots to a career-high of No. 52 with 1,045 points. His compatriot Zhang Zhizhen, the runner-up in Hangzhou, also rose seven spots to No. 41 with 1,270 points.
Lorenzo Musetti's final appearance in Chengdu moved him up one spot to No. 18 with 2,420 points. Brandon Nakashima and Bu Yunchaokete also saw jumps of three and a remarkable 28 spots, respectively, in the rankings, thanks to their semifinal appearances last week.
Marin Cilic's Hangzhou triumph propels him to 500-plus spots
Marin Cilic stunned the tennis world last week by claiming the Hangzhou title, becoming the lowest-ranked champion in ATP Tour history. It was his first title since winning the 2021 St. Petersburg Open, where he defeated Taylor Fritz in a three-set thriller.
Cilic overcame a tough start in Hangzhou, coming from a set down to beat Zachary Svajda in his opener. He then dominated eighth seed Yoshihito Nishioka, survived a challenge from Yasutaka Uchiyama, and outlasted fourth seed Brandon Nakashima en route to the final. Cilic captured the crown with a hard-fought 7-6(5), 7-6(5) victory over local favorite Zhang Zhizhen.
Cilic's triumph propelled him up the rankings by an incredible 565 spots, moving from No. 777 to No. 212. His last appearance was in Tokyo, where he lost his opener to long-time rival Kei Nishikori. Cilic is now set to compete in the Shanghai Masters, facing Arthur Cazaux in the first round.
