Naomi Osaka is through to her first Tour-level semifinal since 2022 at the ASB Classic. Having battled through her last encounter, she will now eye a spot in the finals on Saturday.

The Japanese player was slow to start her semifinal encounter against Hailey Baptiste. The first set developed into an intense affair, with the American taking it to a tiebreaker. Her opponent, however, stepped up and dropped just three more games en-route to the 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Osaka had previously beaten the likes of Julia Grabher and Lina Glushko in straight sets. She now awaits the winner of another quarterfinal between Americans Katie Volynets and Alycia Parks.

Both Volynets and Parks were tested thoroughly in their openers, but came through in straight-sets wins in their last encounters. They were scheduled to play in the evening session on a rain-interrupted Friday.

Poor weather also suspended the quarterfinal encounter between top seed Madison Keys and fifth seed Clara Tauson. The Dane was leading 6-4, 3-4 when the rain began to come down heavily on the Stadium Court.

The winner of that encounter will take on Robin Montgomery, who came up with a solid 6-4, 6-4 win over compatriot Bernada Pera earlier in the day. Sloane Stephens will also be in action in doubles alongside Tauson.
