The 2024 Australian Open is just around the corner and we are all set for some high-octane clashes in Melbourne over the next couple of weeks.
Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka were last year's singles champions as they defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Elena Rybakina in the respective finals.
Both players will aim to defend their titles this year but there will be a lot of competition from other opponents.
In the men's event, Carlos Alcaraz is yet to make a mark at the Australian Open, with his best performance being reaching the third round in 2021, where he pushed then-seventh seed Matteo Berrettini to five sets. The Spaniard has had a long break and will be eager to start 2024 on a high note. Alcaraz at his best is undoubtedly a heavy favorite to win the Australian Open.
Daniil Medvedev reached two finals in Melbourne throughout his career and is also a top contender to win the tournament. Jannik Sinner enjoyed his best season in 2023 and we can expect him to pose a threat to the likes of Djokovic and Alcaraz.
The likes of Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune and 2023 runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas are all capable of competing for the title.
In the women's tournament, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is always a heavy favorite to win every tournament she enters and will be eager to produce a much better performance in Melbourne this year after her fourth-round exit in 2023.
Third seed Elena Rybakina was the runner-up last year and will look to go a step further in 2024. The Kazakh recently won the Brisbane International and given her present form, there is a good chance of her triumphing at Melbourne.
US Open champion Coco Gauff is another top title contender at the Australian Open, as are Jessica Pegula and Ons Jabeur.
