Australian Open 2025 Day 1: Women's singles predictions ft. Donna Vekic vs Diane Parry

The Australian Open 2025 is all primed to start off from January 12. First round matches are scheduled on that day to kickstart the event.

Some of the top players will be headlining the opening day of the tournament. On the women's side, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will begin her title defense against Sloane Stephens. Last year's runner-up Zheng Qinwen will also begin her campaign on the opening day itself.

Let's look at the predictions of some of the first-round matches of the women's singles on day 1 at the Australian Open

#1 Donna Vekic vs Diane Parry

18th-seeded Donna Vekic will look to begin her Australian Open campaign when she takes on Diane Parry of France in the opening round. However, the Croatian has not had the best of starts in 2025. She lost both her matches against Leylah Fernandez and Coco Gauff at the United Cup. She also had an opening round loss against Yulia Putintseva at the Adelaide International.

This will be Diane Parry's first match of the 2025 season. The Frenchwoman had an average season in 2024. She did not reach any finals on the Tour, but had multiple semi final appearances in Palermo, Nottingham, and Osaka.

The pair have played each other only once at the 2022 Slovenia Open, a match Parry won 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. However, given Vekic's performances last year, the Croatian player will be the favorite in the upcoming match.

#2 Clara Tauson vs Linda Noskova

Another first-round match at the Australian Open 2025 will feature Clara Tauson taking on Linda Noskova. Tauson had a great start to the season, as she won the ASB Classic. The circumstances were a bit fortunate for the Danish player as her opponent in the final, Naomi Osaka, had to retire from the match despite winning the first set. However, Tauson defeated quality opponents like Sofia Kenin and top-seeded Madison Keys on her way to the final.

Linda Noskova did not have an ideal start to the 2025 season. The Czech player lost to Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the Brisbane International and then suffered a first-round loss to Maria Sakkari at the Adelaide International. However, she will be keen to replicate her Melbourne success from last year, when she toppled top seed Iga Swiatek and reached the quarterfinal.

This will be the first meeting between the two players. Tauson has just won a title and that will make her a slight favorite to win the upcoming match.

#3 Marta Kostyuk vs Nao Hibino

17th-seeded Marta Kostyuk will begin her Australian Open campaign by taking on Nao Hibino of Japan in the first round. The Ukrainian player is yet to win a match in 2025 as she suffered first round losses at both the Brisbane International and the Adelaide International. She lost to Yue Yuan and Ashlyn Krueger, respectively.

Nao Hibino qualified for the ASB Classic main draw, but lost to Robin Montgomery in the second round. At the Australian Open, the Japanese player has won three consecutive matches to enter the main draw. She defeated Marina Stakusic, Ekaterina Makarova, and Harriet Dart in the qualifiers.

Kostyuk has won 2 of the 3 matches she has played against Hibino. The last time they met was at the 2023 Hua Hin Championships with Kostyuk winning 6-3, 7-6 (7). Given that she is a seeded player at Melbourne, the Ukrainian will be the favorite for this match as well.

#4 Anna Blinkova vs Daria Saville

Another first-round encounter at the 2025 Australian Open will feature a clash between Anna Blinkova and Dara Saville. Blinkova has made a poor start to the 2025 season so far. She lost in the second round at both the Brisbane International and the Hobart International, losing to Mirra Andreeva and Sofia Kenin, respectively.

Daria Saville has not won a match in 2025 yet. The Australian lost to Anatasiia Sobolieva at the Brisbane International in the first round. She faced a similar first-round exit at the hands of Amanda Anisimova at the Hobart International.

Saville has won the only match that she has played against Blinkova. The Aussie won the 2024 Hobart International encounter, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. That will give her the slight advantage going into the upcoming match.
