Day 3 of the 2025 Australian Open will see more first-round action on the courts of Melbourne. Some of the top seeds from both the men's and women's sides remain to take the court, who will begin their campaigns on January 14.
Fourth seed Jasmine Paolini will be the highest seed who will be in action on day 3. She will also be joined by fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina, eighth-seeded Emma Navarro, and ninth-seeded Daria Kasatkina, who will also be in action on Day 3.
Let's have a look at some of the women's singles matches scheduled to take place on day 3 of the 2025 Australian Open.
#8 Veronika Kudermetova vs Olivia Gadecki
Veronika Kudermetova will begin her campaign against home favorite Olivia Gadecki at the Australian Open. So far the Russian has a 2-2 record in 2025. She reached the quarterfinal of the Hobart International, losing 1-6, 6-0, 2-6 to eventual runner-up Elise Mertens.
Olivia Gadecki's 2025 season has not begun on a good note, as the Australian has lost all her three matches so far. She lost to Nadia Podoroska and Katie Boulter at the United Cup. At the Adelaide International, she lost 2-6, 3-6 to Daria Kasatkina in the first round.
This will be the first match between the two players on the WTA Tour. Kudermetova, being the higher-ranked player, will have a slight advantage.

#7 Dayana Yastremska vs Mayar Sherif
The last of the seeds, 32nd-seeded Dayana Yastremska, will begin her Australian Open campaign with a first-round match against Mayar Sherif. So far 2025 has been average for Yastremska. She lost 5-7, 4-6 to Anastasia Potapova in the first round of the Brisbane International. She reached the quarterfinal of the Hobart International, losing 5-7, 4-6 to eventual champion McCartney Kessler.
Mayar Sherif has only played one match this year before the Australian Open. She lost 57-, 4-6 to Anna Bondar in the first round of the Hobart International.
The two players have not played each other previously. However, Yastremska was the semifinalist in Melbourne last year and therefore will hold the advantage in the upcoming match.

#6 Katie Boulter vs Rebecca Marino
22nd-seeded Katie Boulter will kick off her Grand Slam season with a first-round match against Rebecca Marino at the Australian Open. The British player had a decent outing at the United Cup, winning her group matches against Nadia Podoroska and Olivia Gadecki. However, she lost the quarterfinal fixture 7-6 (4), 4-6, 1-6 to Iga Swiatek.
Rebecca Marino played at the ASB Classic before coming to Melbourne. She reached the second round, losing 6-7 (2), 4-6 to Bernarda Pera.
Boulter has won both her matches against Marino, the last of which was a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Canadian at the 2024 Nottingham Open. This makes the Brit the favorite for the upcoming match.

#5 Daria Kasatkina vs Viktoriya Tomova
Ninth-seeded Daria Kasatkina will be beginning her 2025 campaign in Melbourne against Viktoriya Tomova in the first round. Kasatkina has a 3-2 record in the 2025 season so far. The Russian had her best outing at the Adelaide International, where she reached the quarterfinal. She lost 1-6, 3-6 to Madison Keys.
Viktoriya Tomova has lost both of her matches in 2025 so far. She lost 0-6, 3-6 to Renata Zarazua in the first round of the Brisbane International and lost 5-7, 3-6 to Greet Minnen in the first round of the Hobart International.
These two players have not played previously, but being the higher seed, Kasatkina will be the favorite to win the match and reach the next round.

#4 Maria Sakkari vs Camila Osorio
Former Top 10 player and 31st seed, Maria Sakkari will face Camila Osorio in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open. Sakkari has not had a good start to 2025. She lost both her matches at the United Cup to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Elena Rybakina. At Adelaide International, she entered the main draw as a lucky loser but lost 4-6, 1-6 to Jessica Pegula.
Camila Osorio played at the Hobart International before coming to Melbourne. She reached the second round, losing 4-6, 1-6 to Veronika Kudermetova.
Sakkari has won both times she has played against Osorio, the last of which was a win via retirement as the Colombian withdrew from their match at the 2023 San Diego Open. The positive head-to-head makes the Greek player the favorite for the upcoming match.

#3 Ons Jabeur vs Anhelina Kalinina
Former World No. 2 Ons Jabeur will begin her 2025 Australian Open campaign by taking on Anhelina Kalinina in the first round. The Tunisian has a 4-2 record for the season, with a quarterfinal run at the Brisbane International. She lost the match 2-6, 4-6 to Mirra Andreeva.
Anhelina Kalinina had a great run at the Brisbane International, reaching the semifinal. She won against the likes of Wang Yafan, Diana Shnaider, Yue Yuan, and Kimberly Birrell. She lost 4-6, 3-6 to Polina Kudermetova.
Jabeur has won both her matches against Kalinina, the last of which was a 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2) win at the 2023 Cincinnati Open. The Tunisian is the favorite for the upcoming match as well.

#2 Anna Kalinskaya vs Kimberly Birrell
13th-seeded Anna Kalinskaya will start her 2025 Australian Open campaign against Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell in the first round. Kalinskaya has lost both of her matches in 2025. She lost 3-6, 3-6 to Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Brisbane International and had to retire from her first-round match against Belinda Bencic at the Adelaide International.
Kimberly Birrell has started her 2025 season on a bright note. She reached the quarterfinal of the Brisbane International, losing 6-4, 1-6, 5-7 to Anhelina Kalinina. The Aussie player won three consecutive matches against Sara Saito, Priscilla Hon, and Oksana Selekhmeteva to qualify for the main draw.
This will be the first match between the two players. Being the higher seed, Kalinskaya will be the favorite.

#1 Jasmine Paolini vs Wei Sijia
After reaching two Major finals last year, fourth seed Jasmine Paolini will begin her 2025 Grand Slam season against Wei Sijia at the Australian Open. The Italian player was at the United Cup and won her two-round matches against Chole Paquet and Belinda Bencic. However, she lost 2-6, 2-6 to Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals.
Wei Sijia reached the final of an ITF event in Canberra in 2025, losing 4-6, 3-6 to Aoi Ito. At Melbourne, the Chinese player got the better of Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Tamara Korpatsch, and Nina Stojanovic to qualify for the main draw.
The two players have never played each other, and Paolini, being a top seed, will be the favorite.
