The men's singles draw of the 2025 Australian Open (January 12-26) was unveiled on Thursday, January 9. We are in for two weeks of high octane tennis action.

World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner enters the first Grand Slam of the year as the top seed. He is coming on the back of a career-defining season that saw him win eight titles, including two Majors.

Alexander Zverev, along with Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev, rounds up the top five seeds. Medvedev has reached the final in Melbourne on three occasions, while Zverev has made the semifinals twice.

The first round features several blockbuster matches, including Ben Shelton vs Brandon Nakashima, Grigor Dimitrov vs Fabio Fognini, Alcaraz vs Alexander Shevchenko, Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alex Michelsen, and Matteo Berrettini vs Cameron Norrie, among others.

With that in mind, let's dive into how the men's singles draw of the 2025 Australian Open might unfold over the fortnight.

First Quarter: Jannik Sinner to go all the way to defend Australian Open title

Seeded Players: (1) Jannik Sinner, (8) Alex de Minaur, (11) Stefanos Tsitsipas, (13) Holger Rune, (18) Hubert Hurkacz, (19) Karen Khachanov, (31) Francisco Cerundolo, (31) Flavio Cobolli

Expected Quarterfinal: Jannik Sinner vs Alex de Minaur

Dark Horse: Alexander Bublik

Analysis: The first quarter of the draw is stacked with big names, headlined by Jannik Sinner. The Italian had one of the best seasons of his career last year, winning eight titles, including two Grand Slams. He claimed his first Major at the Australian Open and added a second at the US Open.

Sinner will begin his Melbourne campaign against Nicolas Jarry, followed by a possible matchup with Taro Daniel. If the World No. 1 progresses, he could face Marcos Giron or Flavio Cobolli in the third round, with a potential fourth-round clash against Hubert Hurkacz or Matteo Berrettini.

In the quarterfinals, Sinner is expected to face Alex de Minaur, who could reach that stage with potential wins over Botic van de Zandschulp, Federico Coria, Alexander Bublik, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

A potential clash between Sinner and De Minaur promises excitement, given the Aussie had one of the best seasons of his career in 2024, including a maiden ATP Finals appearance. However, Sinner holds a dominant 9-0 head-to-head record against De Minaur, making him the favorite to prevail once again.

Quarterfinal Prediction: Sinner def. De Minaur

Second Quarter: Taylor Fritz vs Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe vs Arthur Rinderknech make for thrilling clashes

Seeded Players: (4) Taylor Fritz, (5) Daniil Medvedev, (9) Andrey Rublev, (16) Lorenzo Musetti, (17) Frances Tiafoe, (21) Ben Shelton, (25) Alexei Popyrin, (30) Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Expected Quarterfinal: Taylor Fritz vs Daniil Medvedev

Dark Horse: Borna Coric

Analysis: Fourth seed Taylor Fritz is in this quarter of the draw, aiming to claim his maiden Grand Slam title. He came close last year, reaching the US Open final but fell to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. Additionally, the first-round clash between Ben Shelton and Brandon Nakashima is set to grab plenty of attention, alongside the performance of Frances Tiafoe.

The first barrier in Fritz's path will be his compatriot Jason Brooksby, and then he might lock horns with Borna Coric. If he wins, his third-round opponent might be big-hitter Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Following that, the main attraction arrives in the fourth round, where Fritz might go toe-to-toe with good friend Shelton.

Fritz is expected to advance past the fourth round, setting up a quarterfinal clash with either Daniil Medvedev or Andrey Rublev, though Medvedev seems more likely. Against the fifth seed, the American may struggle to maintain control of the match, ultimately losing.

Quarterfinal Prediction: Medvedev def. Fritz.

Third Quarter: Novak Djokovic could meet Carlos Alcaraz in QF

Seeded Players: (3) Carlos Alcaraz, (7) Novak Djokovic, (10) Grigor Dimitrov, (15) Jack Draper, (22) Sebastian Korda, (24) Jiri Lehecka, (26) Tomas Machac, (27) Jordan Thompson

Expected Quarterfinal: Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz

Dark Horse: Reilly Opelka

Analysis: Third seed Carlos Alcaraz and seventh seed Novak Djokovic are two of the biggest names in this quarter of the draw. While the Serb had a rough start to his 2025 season, exiting the Brisbane International in the quarterfinals, the young Spaniard is yet to kick off his campaign.

Djokovic and Alcaraz could be each other's biggest threats in Melbourne, with a potential quarterfinal clash looming.

Djokovic will face Nishesh Basavareddy in the opening round, followed by possible encounters with Pavel Kotov, Reilly Opelka, and Grigor Dimitrov. Conversely, Alcaraz will meet Alexander Shevchenko in the first round and could face Yoshihito Nishioka, Jordan Thompson, and Jack Draper as the tournament progresses.

A Round of 8 clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic would be everything the fans hope for. This time, the former appears ready to take control and deny the latter the chance to win his record 25th Grand Slam.

Quarterfinal Prediction: Alcaraz def. Djokovic

Fourth Quarter: Alexander Zverev to eye maiden Grand Slam after many heartbreaks

Seeded Players: (2) Alexander Zverev, (6) Casper Ruud, (12) Tommy Paul, (14) Ugo Humbert, (20) Arthur Fils, (23) Alejandro Tabilo, (28) Sebastian Baez, (29) Felix Auger-Aliassime

Expected Quarterfinal: Alexander Zverev vs Casper Ruud

Dark Horse: Nick Kyrgios

Analysis: Second seed Alexander Zverev will aim to capture his first Major at the Australian Open this year after several near misses. He came agonizingly close to winning the French Open last year but fell short against Carlos Alcaraz. He also made it to the semifinals in Melbourne last year before being knocked out by Daniil Medvedev, so he's determined to go further this time.

Zverev's campaign starts against wild card Lucas Pouille, with a potential showdown against Pedro Martinez next. If he progresses, he could face Nick Kyrgios in the third round. In the fourth round, the German might meet either 14th seed Ugo Humbert or 20th seed Arthur Fils.

Zverev could meet either sixth seed Casper Ruud or 29th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals, with Ruud likely being his opponent due to more experience. However, the World No. 2 is expected to overcome any challenge and advance to the semifinals.

Quarterfinal Prediction: Zverev def. Ruud
