Jannik Sinner leads the way with Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic not far behind in the 2025 Australian Open Men's singles seedings.
Sinner enters the 2025 Australian Open on the back of his most successful year with two Majors but also a year marred with controversy amidst a doping scandal and several sanctions. The Italian, who won his maiden Grand Slam at the Rod Laver Arena last year, will be looking to protect his crown as the No.1 seed.
Alexander Zverev enters the tournament as the second seed following a strong 2024 season that saw him finish as runner-up in the French Open and end the year ranked a personal best of No.2 in the ATP rankings. The German will look to better his semifinal finish from last year's edition.
Defending Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is seeded third in the draw. The Spaniard's best-ever outing in Melbourne came last year when he lost to second-seed Zverev in the quarterfinals. The Norman Brookes Challenge Cup is the only Grand Slam that Alcaraz is yet to lift, and he will want to complete his career slam in the coming weeks.
American Taylor Fritz comes in on number four following his runner-up finish at the 2024 US Open, where he lost to Sinner in straight sets. 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev is ranked number five, and will surely aim to double his Major tally following his solitary triumph.
Entering the tournament with his best seeding at the Australian Open, Casper Ruud is sixth in the draw. The Norwegian will want to better his track record at the Happy Slam, with only a fourth-round exit to show for his best performance.
Reigning Olympic champion and the man with the most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, Novak Djokovic is seeded seventh. The 10-time Australian Open winner will be looking to make it eleven, with Alex De Minaur closing out the seeding in eighth place.
The seedings for the tournament were confirmed following Andrey Rublev's loss to Fabian Marozsan in the round of 16 at the Hong Kong Open, which dropped him to 9th in the rankings.
Carlos Alcaraz could become the youngest man ever to complete a career slam
At only 21 years of age, Carlos Alcaraz stands a chance to become the youngest male athlete to complete a career slam following his victory at the 2024 French Open, leaving only the Australian Open unconquered for the Spaniard.
The record currently sits with Don Budge, who achieved the feat after winning the 1938 Roland Garros at 22 years and 11 months. In the Open Era, recently retired Rafael Nadal holds it, completing the task in 24 years and three months.
Funnily enough, Alcaraz can break the record even if he misses out on the title this year as he will only be 22 years and eight months if he lifts the trophy in 2026.
