Barbora Krejcikova was recently asked to pick her favorite player between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Krejcikova named Federer and Nadal and mentioned their respective traits that make it difficult for her to choose one over the other. However, she did not mention Djokovic's name, which irked the Serb's loyal fans.
Krejcikova is gearing up for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships women's singles final, where she will face Jasmine Paolini. The Czech, a former World No. 2, won the 2021 French Open, but most of her success as a tennis player has come in doubles. Krejcikova has 10 doubles titles in Majors to her name and has even been ranked World No. 1 in doubles.
Recently, the 28-year-old took to X for a Q&A session with fans. One fan asked the Czech to pick one among Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic; the trio fondly known as the Big Three because of their collective dominance in men's tennis from the mid-2000s to the early 2020s. While Federer retired in 2022 and Nadal has been plagued by injuries in recent years, Djokovic continues to be a contender for the biggest titles.
Krejcikova, unable to choose one between Federer and Nadal, picked both, writing:
"Rafa and Roger. Don’t make me choose. I love Roger’s grace and Rafa’s fighting spirit."
Some Djokovic fans blatantly berated Krejcikova over her admission.
"Classless comment. Can't believe I was hoping for you to win (in the Wimbledon 2024 women's singles final against Paolini) (as underdog) Ewwww," a fan wrote.
"She's canceled," commented another fan.
"Lost all my respect for you," another fan chimed in.
Another set of the Serb's fans stated that they would be rooting for Paolini in the final due to the Czech not picking Djokovic as her favorite among the Big Three.
"Nolefam WILL be supporting Paolini against you tomorrow," wrote a fan.
"Paolini, you know what to do," another fan commented.
"Good, Forza Jasmine, win it all," another fan weighed in.
Barbora Krejcikova also laid bare late mentor Jana Novotna's "funny" desire for her during the Q&A session
One fan asked Krejcikova during the Q&A session how her late mentor Jana Novotna helped her become a top-five player and a Major champion. Krejcikova responded by saying she did not have an exact answer to the question, but the Czech revealedl a "funny" desire that the late Novotna had for her.
According to Krejcikova, Novotna wanted her to start flying in business class as soon as she could afford it.
"I don’t have an exact answer to be honest. I still think about her A LOT so she is still teaching me in some way. I think her advices would be more accurate now. But funny thing - she was very keen on me starting to fly in a business class as soon as I could afford it," Krejcikova wrote.
Krejcikova is set to lock horns with Paolini for the Wimbledon 2024 women's singles title on Saturday, July 13. The Czech and the Italian have faced each other only once previously on the WTA Tour. The meeting came in the first qualifying round of the 2018 Australian Open and was dominated by Krejcikova, who won 6-2, 6-1.
