The 2024 Barcelona Open concluded on Sunday, with third seed Casper Ruud winning 7-5, 6-3 against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. The Norwegian didn't lose a set en route to the title.
The total prize money for this year's edition of the tournament was €2,782,960. Ruud's efforts at the Barcelona Open will reward him with $488,390 in prize money. Tsitsipas, meanwhile, will earn $260,475 as the runner-up.
Ruud won his 11th career title and the biggest of his career, as all of his prior titles were at the ATP 250 level. The victory was extra special, as he lost to Tsitsipas in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters last week.
Ruud has performed incredibly well all year. After three runner-up finishes this season, this was a long overdue triumph for him. He has won a tour-leading 29 matches this season against seven losses.
For an ATP 500 level tournament, the Barcelona Open awards its participants with a good chunk of prize money. Semifinalists Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Dusan Lajovic will earn $135,125 each.
Cameron Norrie, Facundo Diaz Acosta, Matteo Arnaldi and Arthur Fils all bowed out in the quarterfinals and received $70,550 each. Alex de Minaur and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina were among the players eliminated in the third round, and each of them got $37,175.
Players who lost in the second round each received $20,350, while those who suffered first-round exits got $10,855 each.
Casper Ruud's triumph at the Barcelona Open pushes him closer to $19 million in career prize money
Coming back to the man of the hour, Casper Ruud has gotten a decent bump in his career prize money earnings after his win at the Barcelona Open. Before this week he had earned $18,242,534, which has increased to $18,730,924 as a result of his title-winning run.
If Ruud rides this wave of momentum and claims the Madrid Open title in two weeks' time, he will fall just shy of $20 million in career earnings. He has also reached the final of the last two editions of the French Open.
If Ruud continues to play like this, another deep run at the claycourt Major isn't out of bounds. But a lot could happen until then, though, so for now the Norwegian will be happy to bask in the glory of his Barcelona Open title.
