Daniil Medvedev launched a brief but foul-mouthed attack at chair umpire Eva Asderaki during his Wimbledon 2024 semifinal showdown against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Medvedev, the No. 5 seed in the men's singles draw at SW19 this year, lost his composure after Alcaraz broke him deep in the first set thanks to a call made by the umpire that went the Spaniard's way. The Russian's outburst sparked shock among the majority of tennis fans, who felt he had crossed the line.

Medvedev found himself in pole position to clinch the first set when he was serving at 5-4. However, Alcaraz was not to be denied as he kept pace with the Russian and eventually found himself with a break point opportunity with the game 40-30 in his favor. At this point, the Spaniard pulled off one of his trademark drop shots. Medvedev did all he could to reach it in time and even mustered a return.

However, according to Asderaki, the ball had bounced twice when the Russian made contact. As a result, the point and the game went to Alcaraz. Medvedev lashed out at the female chair umpire, seemingly saying:

"F**k you! F**k you! F**k you!"

Soon, the chair umpire, after an elaborate discussion with the supervisor, issued a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct to Medvedev. However, fans on X (formerly Twitter) opined that a warning was too little a punishment for Medvedev's behavior.

"#Medvedev being abusive to the female umpire. Awful #wimbledon," a fan wrote.
"He should have been automatically banned after what I've just read!" another fan commented.

"F**k you, F**k you, you piece of s**t! I believe are the words used by #Medvedev just now to the chair umpire! Just a warning???? At least a point penalty," speculated and opined yet another fan.
"What the heck ahahahah. The ball clearly bounced twice mate. We're Lucky Daniil wasn't disqualified. He must have approached the chair umpire with horrible words," another fan chimed in.

Another set of fans criticized the World No. 5 for his outburst, suggesting that others may not have gotten away with it as easily as he did.

"Wish she could get him disqualified! taking your frustration on people who just doing their job instead of actually trying to play better!" a fan wrote.
"This guy has a daughter and is saying these kinds of things to women… that’s so gross," another weighed in.

"Serena Williams would've been disqualified and banned," yet another fan commented.

Daniil Medvedev courted controversy in the quarterfinals as well; copied Novak Djokovic's gesture to take a swipe at the crowd

Medvedev, who has often clashed with crowds and officials in the past, was at the center of another incident during his Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinal against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Russian, leading the Italian by two sets to one, won the first game of the fourth set, with Sinner seemingly struggling with a physical issue.

However, Medvedev became sloppy soon after, and Sinner made the most of his opponent's poor play, winning four games on the spin to race to a 4-1 lead in the fourth set. A changeover followed, and the Russian, clearly rocked, gave a sarcastic thumbs-up to the crowd. Unsurprisingly, Medvedev faced jeers from those in attendance.

This is when the Russian imitated Novak Djokovic's violin act. The Serb has done it a couple of times at the Championships this year, where he mimics playing the violin using his racquet.
