Ben Shelton extended heartfelt congratulations to Maxence LeBlanc of the Ohio State football team, which lifted the College Football Playoff National Champion's title. Shelton is currently competing in the Australian Open 2025, fresh off his loss to Jakub Mensik at the ASB Classic.

Shelton kicked off his 2024 season with the Men's Clay Court Championships, trouncing Zizou Bergs, Brandon Nakashima, and Tomas Martin Etcheverry to win his first title on clay against compatriot Frances Tiafoe. The monumental win made him the youngest champion since Andy Roddick in 2002 and catapulted him to No. 1 in the US rankings.

After ending his year with the 2024 Laver Cup, where he scored the most points for Team World, Shelton started his 2025 season with the Australian Open. He is through to the quarterfinal round after defeating Gael Monfils in the fourth round. Before his match-up against Lorenzo Sonego, the 22-year-old shifted his attention to college football.

Taking to his Instagram story, the Grand Slam quarterfinalist extended heartfelt wishes to Maxence LeBlanc, the tight end of Ohio State Buckeyes, who took the College Football Playoff National Champion's title with his team.

"Congrats bro," Shelton's story caption read.

After their fourth round clash, Ben Shelton's opponent Gael Monfils lauded his energy on the court and confirmed he would root for the American in the Australian Open. Monfils had to retire in the fourth set with the score at 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 in favor of Shelton.

"I love Ben Shelton, you know, I love, I love him," Gael Monfils said. "You know this kid is amazing. He's full of energy, is a great guy. He's a great kid and it's always too bad to play someone that you love and but we put the fighting spirit out. "

Monfils added:

"Now I'm rooting for [Ben Shelton], he's a guy that I really appreciate spending time with.."

Shelton made it to his first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2023 US Open but lost to Novak Djokovic, who eventually won the tournament. The American will be hoping to reach his second-ever Grand Slam semifinal at the ongoing tournament.
