Roger Federer-backed young star Henry Bernet made history as the first Swiss player to win the Australian Open boys' singles title. Ben Shelton later celebrated his achievement on social media.

The 18-year-old faced America's Ben Willwerth in the final at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday, January 25. Bernet began strong, claiming the first set 6-3, and maintained his momentum in the second set 6-4, to win on his birthday.

Ahead of his campaign in Melbourne, the youngster unveiled a five-year partnership with On Running, the Swiss sportswear brand backed by Roger Federer.

The apparel brand has collaborated with notable athletes like Ben Shelton, Flavio Cobolli, and World No. 2 Iga Swiatek. Moreover, Shelton took to Instagram to celebrate Bernet's historic triumph, writing:

Bernet made history by winning his first junior Major title and becoming the first Swiss to do so in Australia. Notably, his compatriots Roger Federer, a 20-time Major champion, won the boys' title at Wimbledon in 1998, while Stan Wawrinka triumphed at the French Open in 2003.

Meanwhile, Shelton also made a deep run in his Australian Open campaign, reaching the semifinals.

Ben Shelton faced a 7-6(2) 6-2 6-2 defeat to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinals on Friday, January 24. After the match, Shelton reflected on his performance, expressing confidence in his abilities and recognizing that he was close to competing at the highest level.

“I know I'm close. I know my level's close. I know I have a lot of the stuff that I need. I certainly believe in myself. I just think that the reps against those guys, the consistency of playing those guys, playing a lot of matches in a week or a couple weeks, that will be the goal this year for me," Ben Shelton said (via Australian Open).

Shelton further reflected on missing two set points while serving at 6-5, acknowledging the limited opportunities against the Italian.

“Having two set points on my serve, serving at 6-5, I feel like uncharacteristic for me not to come through and win that. Obviously you're playing the No. 1 player in the world, the chances, the windows are always small. Sometimes you miss your window, and the guy steps up his level, starts making a lot more first serves, playing better. The break chances don't come as often," he added.

During the match, Shelton managed to land only 59% of his first serves, while Jannik Sinner capitalized with a 76% return rate, gaining the upper hand. The latter will face second-seeded Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday, January 26.
